-Hanover is a sleepy little German
town up north which the nonsensical
dame of ping -gong has not yet reached,
A Hanover girl, away from home, had
become greatly infatuated with the
Baine. She wrote home about ping-
pong, lauded ping-pong to the skies,
and said she was ' just crazy" about
ping-pong. The parents dumfounded
at what they considered their daugh-
ter's folly, wrote kr a. letter in pretty
strong terms in which they stated em-
phatically that she had better ship
Ping Pong immediately, as they would
have no Chinaman in their family.
-Mr. F. C. Elford, of Holmeeville
secretary of the West Huron farmers'
institute, writes to the Toronto Weekly
Bun ae follows : " So far as my obser-
vation extends, people are to some ex-
tent going out of dairying. They give
as their principal reason the scarcity of
hired help and consequent high wages,
while the high prices for stock is given
as the reason why so many in this sec-
tion are giving up the cheese factory.
Farmers here are realizing that one
cow may lope what the other makes
and are weeding out the inferior ones.
They are judging not only from the
pail but the Babcock teat as well and as
a rule the milk at home or et the rec-
tory le consequently teeting higher,"
-People everywhere are looking after
the new King lsdwerd five -cent piece,
no whfoh the. ntauufacturer, Heaton, of
Birmingham, England, erroneously put
the queen's crown on tho reverse, im-
otead of the king's crown. The 10 and
26 cent pieces bear the king's crown.
'Phe government has stopped tbe iesue
of the five -cent pieces, aid will confis-
,eate all those not sent out. The people
are as yet mistaken in the reason for
the stoppage of this coin, and the real
teason is not on account of the crown,
althoegh this is admitted to be an error.
The reel reason ie, that the nsuel small
H beneath the wreath that is necessary
on all coinage done by the llr.ator,
.00mt'any, has been oititted in the drat
.00ntignutent of tirc•ornt pieces that
reached Caned.. The 10 and 25 -cent
pieces of the Edward iesue bear the H,
All coinage, both Eoglieh and Caua-
diem, that hoe uo letter beneath the
wreath, is done itt the royal mint in
London. The Heaton people only get
the orders when the royal mint is very
host', The new Edward cent just le-
