Following is the topical song compos- ed and sung at the Conservative Club smoker in Toronto recently, by Mr. Alf. Rubhra, which so tickled Sir Charles Tupper, who was the club's guest : 'While strolling along 'Mid the city's vast throng. An old friend I met on I he street. Says I, "How d'ye do ?" Said he, "How are you ? Colne down to headquarters and treat. Through that Laurier mob, I've lost that soft. job At the Custom Hoelse down neer by ; With it 1'd toart, To oblige Mr. Tarte, And now I've to work or I'll die." He may have seen better des s, When he was in his primer— }Ie may have seen better days, Once upon a time. But he happened to be a good Tory, Now for it dearly he pays. Ah, yes ; it's the same sad old stot y Of one who has seen better days. There are lots of good Grits Expecting procd sits, Perhaps they will soon get thein now ; But on one vacancy They failed to agree— Of course that's the Cabinet row Between Clifford and Joe For the portfolio. Poor Laurier's had a sad lot— Cliff got on the inside— But be can't now decide Whether to take it or not. And Joseph has seen better days, When the election was in its prime. Joseph had seen Netter days Before Hugh John Macdonald's tune. In the election he fell And a judgeship is no good, he says. Perhaps Cllfford don't want the Inter- ior—nit Joe has seen better days. • Too expensive by far, Was the Cumberland car, When in it a Tory would roam. Now the Grits had the calt-- It's no fancy at all, And Israel can't 'day at home. But west he must go, Amid great style and show. Economy fails to cut ice— He likes living that way, (What a'nigger they say), And the people roust put up the price. Oh, the Cumberland's seen better days, When the Torics were in their prime, The Cumberland saw better days, Once upon a time. With the rest of the business it fell, And in it now Mr. Tarte stays. It may be a freight car before ninny moons, ft has seen Netter days. A lIlcssat:e to Men. PROVINO THAT TRUE HONESTY AND TRt-F: PHiLANTUOI'Y STILL EXIST. IN THE SHADOW OF DEATH. THE CONDITION OF MANY YOUNG GIRLS IN CANADA. PALE FACES AND BLOODLESS LIPS -- GIVEN TO HEADACHES — EXTREME WEAKNESS, HEART PALPITATION AND OTHER DISTRESSING SYMPTOMS—THE MEANS OP ,`URE READILY AT HAND. From the Leamington Post. The attention of the Post has lately been frequently called to a remarkable cure in the case of a young girl living within a few tunes of this town, whose life was despaired of, but who was completely cured in a short space of time by the most wonderful of all rem- edies Dr, Williams' Pink Pills. Since reading in almost every issue of the Post of the cures effected by the use of this medicine, we felt it to he a duty we owed to investigate this cake which has so urgently, been brought to our notice, and we are sure the interview will he read with interest hy the thous- ands of young girls all over Canada. as well as by the, parents of such interest- ing patients. The young lady in ques- tion is not anxious for notoriety, but is willing to snake her ease known in order that others who are sinilnrly af- flicted may have an opportunity of being equally henetitted. The symp- toms in her disease differed in no way from thoseaaffetactingthousands of young girls about her age. She was sufferinv from extreme weakness, caused by an impoverished condition of t he blood, and her chances of life seemed to grow less every day. The hest and bright- est fade away as well as others, but when we pee a young girl of sixteen year's, who should be in the hest of health, with cheeks aglow with the rosy flush of youth, and eyes bright. and flashing, ,just the opposite, with sallow cheeks, bloodless lips, listless in every emotion, despondent, despairing of life, with no expectation or. hope of regaining health, and with only one wish lett, thiat of complete rest, physi- cal and trental, we think it. one of the saddest of sights. A Cedar Hill, Victoria, B. C. C'a;e That lias Caused lucll Favorable Comment. After a Lifetime of Agony From Rheumatism, a Lady is Cured by Paiue's Celery Compound. There is no other medicine in the world so prominent to -day as Paine's Celery Compound. 'the results it in- variably gives to rheumatic sufferers are so astonishing and satisfying that it has justly been named the world's wonder-working utedicine. The desperate case of Mrs. Elizabeth King, Cedar Hill, Victoria, B. C., is one that is well known to hundreds in the city of Victoria and vicinity. For almost a Lifetime Mrs. King endured the variabled agonies of rheumatism and failed to find a cure by the aid of doctors and patent medicines. A friend, knowing personally the value of Paine Celery Compound and its power to overcome the worst cases of rheumatism, advised Mrs, King to give it a trial. The afflicted lady com- plied with her friends request, and was delivered from her life of torture, and now with a heart full of joy and thank- fulness, makes a public statement for the benefit of the thousands that have not yet found a cure ; she says : "I have been troubled with rheuma- tism all my life, and about eight years ago I had a very severe attack, almost losing the use of my right arm. A friend recommended Patine's Celery Compound, and kindly gave me a bottle. I was so much benefitted by that one bottle that I took three more, and was quite cured. Since then it has been almost my only medicine for all the ailments from which I have suffered, and all my family have found some benefit from it. I am sixty-five years of age ; I live on a farm, get up early in the morning, and aro equal to a good day's work." Paris Patients at the Pasteur Institute. The hydrophobia scare in Paris has subsided somewhat, as result a of the action taken by the Town Council, About 60 dogs have been destroyed by the constables, and all live dogs are chained and housed and are to remain - so for six months. Any running at large are liable to be shot down. A despatch from New York says :— The three Canadian patients, all bitten hy the same dog arrived at Pasteur Institute for treatment this afternoon, They are George Newman, 32 years old, a driver of :an express wagggon, bitten on the right hand on the 28th of October, Grace Shepard, 21 years old, bitten on the wrist the day follow- ing, and her brother George, 21 years old, bitten on the right forefinger on the 30th of October. The dog was a enterable spaniel owned by George Shepard, and had been acting strange- ly several days before he bit Newman, having several times snapped at pass- ers-by. The Shepards did not like to destroy the dog, which was usually very gentle, and as the wounds did not appear dangerous they permitted hits to live. When, however, 1 he ani- mal died in convulsions an November 3rd they became frightened and cattle to New York for treatment. As no symptoms of rabies have yet develop- ed it is thought that all three will re- cover,. The patients come from Paris. Ali Sorts. Business failures in Canada the week before last numbered sixty, against thirty-eight fur the coer('sponding week last year. There n>ust be a mis- take sernewhere.
