TALMAWI SAYS: --"A newspaper whose columns overflow with advertisements of business men has more influence in attracting atten- tion to, and building up a city or town, than any other agency that can he em- ployed. _People go where there helms - mess. Capital and labor will locate where there is an enterprising eoru- nlunity. No power 00 earth is so strong to build up a town as a news- paper well patronized, and its power should be appreciated. I'r Is SETTLED.—A roan once asked an editor : "Can yeu tell what kind of weather we can expect this mont.h'r" The editor sarcastically replied : '•It is my belief that the weather this month will be very much like your subscription hill.” The man wondered for an hour what the editor was driv- ing at, when at last he happened to think of the word "unsettled." How is it with you ? APPROACH OF WINTER.—Immense flocks of geese have been seen flying south from Northern Ontario. This, observers say, is a much earlier date than usual, and indicates the sudden approach of cold weather. Already we .have had sharp frosts in this part of Huron, but on the whole the weather has been comparativelymild. In the far north, however, ep fanned in the streams weeks ago. With the first advent of winter this year there has been an innovation of the featured owl specie within prohibited lines and on Monday morning Mr. Wrn. Foster faced the enemy and proved that lie was plaster of the situation. While workmen were wending their way to Stapleton they discovered be- tween Couch's and Pickett's what they thought t,o 110 ra sperie of raptorial bird of the family Stigida•. Although in the Scriptures the owl is c'ornrnnnly alssec•ialed with desolation and poets and story -tellers introduce It as a bird of ill omen, fund that the Greeks and Roulette made it the eirdile1)1 of wisdom, and sacrad 10 Minerva, Mr. Foster drew a head on the hied and brought it down. It resembles the Greet Grey Oel, brit is principally- white with some cleetk snots and is large, being five feet frorrr tip to tip of the wings. It, w;ts heard in Mr. R. Irwin's garden on Sunday evening. S. A. Seta. DENIAL,.
