ment in the council room, Morris, on
Dec. 16th, members all present, .the
Reeve in the chair. ISI Mutes of hast
meeting read and passed except the
item referring to Jas. Timtnin's order
for gravel the same being $1.80 instead
of $7.80 as reported in minutes. Moved
by W. Isbister, seconded by Geo. Kirk-
by, that Elam Livingston be allowed to
erect electric light poles on the public
highway at the village of Belgrave so
long as tt does not iuterfere with public
or private travel -carried. On motion
of Geo, Kirkby, seconded by Thos. Code

Creston, la., Dec. 26. -Harold Land,
director of the Ladies' Military Band
of this city, has been arrested on a
charge of abduction. He represented
himself as a Widower, and has had
living with hitt two young worsen
whorl he introduced as his sisters,
Mabel and Helena.
Mayor Scui'r yesterday received a
letter from Mrs Giltuore Smith, of
Wingham, Ont., in which she asserts
that the two women are daughters of
hers, who disappeared from home over
a year ago, and of which no trace
could be found. She charges that
Land Is an assumed name, and that his
real name is Duncan Summers, and that
he has a wife and children living in
Canada. The chief of police at once
investigated the (natter, and the two
young worsen confessed that the state-
ments in the letter were true. Land
was Immediately taken into custody.

XMAS TREE AND PRESENTATION. -
Despite the disagreeable weather, there
was a large and well pleased gathering
at the town hall on Monday evening of
last week, it being the occasion of St.
Andrew's annual Sabbath school
Christ as tree entertainment. The

purse was made to Miss Maggie Porter-
field, for her efficient and faithful ser-
vices as organist. The proceeds
amounted to about $25.
ACCIDENT.- tIr. Chris. Parker met
with a serious accident on Tuesday
morning, as a result of which he may
lose the sight, c•f one eye. He was
chopping grain on the farm of Mrs.
Sparks, Bronson line, and had just got
the engine started when the belt broke.
As he was passing it at the time he got,
the full force of the blow from one end
of the broken belt. The split occurred
at a point where the hell had heen
fastened with rivets and these made
the wound all the uglier. Dr. Stan -
bury was hastily called in and found it
necessary to put in several stitches,
but hopes are still entertained that the
use of the eye will be preserved.
