It to not always the majority who
make tho most noise. The suggestion le
as useful in religion as In polities. Skep-
tics have for a good whlle olaimed the
earth and all the people on it. Now, or
very soon they are or will be everybody.
An old story relates that three tailors
met in a little room in Tooley Street,
London, and put forth a manifesto,
which began: "We, the People of Eng-
land." An anoient story of Greek origin,
has been revised after this fasbieni A
trader offers for sale three oar-igde of
frogs. A buyer, etanding near, ogere to
take three dozen; and the bargain is
olosed. But when the dealer presents his
frogs, there aro only eine dozen, and he
oonfesses that he never had more than a

"They made so mnob noise that I

From the Brockville Recorder.
Rockport is but a small hamlet, but it
has achieved a wide reputation owing to
the fact that it is situated in the very
heart of the far -tamed Thoneand Islands,
and for this reason attracts during the
summer months hundreds of pleasure
seekers. Among the residents of the vil-
lage none is better known than Wilson A.
Root. During the summer months he fol-
lows the occupation of an oarsman, and
none knows better than he the haunts of
the gamey base and pickerel. In the winter
end spring months Mr Root follows the
ocoupation of trapping and this pursuit re-
quires one to be out in all sorts of weather,
and in the water frequently at a time of
the year when the water is none too warm.
Ae a result of a wetting Mr Root took a
severe cold which developed into la grippe,
whioh took such a firm hold upon his system
that for a time he was unable to leave the
house. His kidneys became affected, he
suffered with severe pains across the book.
There was a feeling of continuous tiredness
whioh no amount of rest or sleep seemed to
relieve. The appetite was fickle, and there
was an indisposition to exertion or work
A numberlof remedies were tried, one after
the other, but without any beneficial results.
At this juncture a hiend strongly advised
that Dr. Williams' Pink Pills be given a
trial. They had cured thonsande of others
and why not be? Acting oi{ his friend's
suggestion Mr Root probnred a single box
of the Pink Pills, and before all were used
felt an improvement. This enooaraged
him to persevere with the treatment, and
after the use of a few more boxes of the
pills Mr. Root found his health fully re-
stored, all the pains and aohee had dis-
appeared, and with their disappearance
came renewed strength and aotivity. Mr
Root says:—"I firmly believe Dr. Williams'
Pink Pills to be unsurpassed as a medicine
and I advise any who are ailing to give it a
fair and honest trial."
Dr. Williams' Pink Pills strike at the
root of the disease, driving it from the sys-
tem and restoring the patient to health and
strength. In oases of paralysis, spinal
troubles, locomotor ataxia, rheumatism,
soiatioa, erysipelas, eorofaloae troubles,
etc., these pills are superior to all other
treatments. They are also al specific for
the troubles which makes the lives of so
many women a burden, and speedily re-
stores the rich glow of health to pale and
sallow obeaks. Men broken down by over-
work, worry or excesses, will find in Pink
Pills a pertain pure. Sold by all dealers or
sent by mail on receipt of 50 cents a box or
$2.50 for six boxes, by addressing the Dr.
Will]]epr1s Medicine Co., Brockville, Ont., or
Scheifpetady, N. Y. Beware of imitations
and refuse trashy enbstitntes alleged to be
'just as good."
The other night was the occasion of a
pleasant event at the parsonage on the Ade-
laide oirouit. A number of friende gathered
to give thier pastor, Rev. R. Fulton Irwin,
formerly of Carlingford, and his bride a re-
ception on their arrival from Ireland.

Matters in the Berlin registry trouble as-
sumed an acute stage on Monday, when
thedepnby registrar, Thomas Bridger, was
arrested at his home on three separate in-
diotmente, oharging him with forgery, em-
bezzlement, and neglecting to enter fees in
the fees -book, which latter has now, under
an existing law, become a prime. Mr Brid-
ger, who was arrested at the mitigation of
Inspector of Registry Offioee Donald Guth-
rie, took the matter very hard. He appear-
ed before Mr Mackie, J.P., and was re-
manded to gaol for a week, where he now
lies. The facto of the case as regarda the
amount of shortage and embezzlement are
known only to the registry office officials.

LOW OPINION OF WOMEN.
Their Position ()oder tho New German
Code.
After many years of inoubation, a new
oode of law has been adopted for the
whole German Empire. It Is one that
places German women in the lowest posi-
tion that is odoupied by the women of
any modern civilized peoples.
The German mother has no right to
her children; the German wife's property
rights aro so absolutely non-existent that
her husband can annul any oontroot
that ebb makes in business, or evOU
with an employe:So, can claim and
receive her earnin
A great meetin protest was held
In Berlin, attended by tome 16,000 per-
sons. A large proportion of those present
were women. This was In itself an illegal
aot, for, extraordinary as it appears to
ns free Englishwomen, German women
are prohibited from being present at
politioal meetings, and a meeting may be
broken up by the police at any time afi
an illegal assembly if only a few women
are in attendance. However, this one was
not interfered with, and resolutions were
passed "protesting against the continued
deprivation of women of their eoonomio
independence, against the relations of
married women to their husbands as
presented by the node, against the pro-
vision that the goods possessed by a
woman shall become the property of the
man she marries, against the provision
that mothers are not allowed guardian
rights over their ohildren and against
the refusal of the law to give illegitimate
children Lull claims upon the fathom"
This meeting was, however, quite fruit-
less. Tho code passed all the same.—

'rhe Great Benefits From Cycling,
Most of the ailments which are own -
moray oalled "bilious" are caused by
too much food of a rloh nature, and too
much drink of a sweet or alcoholic) char -
meter, combined with too little exercise
in the open air. Tho liver attempts to get
rid of the superfluous materials thrown
into the circulation, and, being over-
worked. rebels, and all sorts of ailments
aro the outward signs of Ito Inaction in
those who live a sedentary life. The
presoription of a blcyole, and the re-
commendation to nee it wisely and
well, works like a charm in snoh
oases. and in all symptomatic, ail-
ments which arise from too much
"aotd" to the system. It is interesting to
note that oyoling sometimes has the
effect of thlning the obese and fattening
the thin, and this may partly be ex-
plained by Murchison's observation
that excessive leanness, as well as ex-
cessive oorpulenoe, is often Doused by in-
aotion of the liver and the stimulus of
regular exercise, setting the functions of
that organ right, causes the disappear-
ance of what was only a symptom.
In oases of breakdown of the nervous
system from overwork and anxiety, oyo-
ling will be found a most valuable ad-
junct to the rest whioh is necessary for
recovery, and numerous brain workers
now consider a daily ride indispensable
if their work is to remain at concert
pitob. In the anaemia of young girls
steel in the form of the wheel is even
more effectual than as "drops," and the
notion of the fat mueoles of the abdom-
inal walls on the subjacent organs being
much increased by the movements neces-
sary to retain the balance and drive the
machine, has amarked effect. Within the
experienoe of the writer many sufferers
from sick headache, neuralgia and
hysteria, both male and female, have
reaped much benefit from regulated
cycle riding, and many oases of so-oalled
palpitation have been onred. Lastly, in-
somnia has frequently been found to
yield to the proper use of the bicycle
when every other soporific) had been
defied, and many nates of persistent
nocturnal cramp have been relieved. It
is noessary, however, to again warn
everyone who is not an experienced rider
against the abuse of this fascinating exer-
else. The writer has seen several healthy
young girls quite broken down fora time
by riding too far and too fast while still
unfit, from lack of practice, for any
really hard exertion.—British Medical
Journal.
