NAUIWW ESCAPE. — On Saturday

horse, a colt, got frightened by a piece
Of flying paper, and became unman-
ageable, and when the paper struck
the horse on the breast, it reared up
and almost fell ba kwards into the
buggy. .

'their eldest boy was called away, and
on Monday they lost a dear little girl

'Clark, formerly of Clinton, having
taken up a permanent residence near,
Detroit, has decided to sell her proper-'
ty on Rattenbury St., East. The lo.
cation is a most desirable one—one of

well built and is in good condition.

A SiitAsH,—The other day a man
'who was the -worse ofliquor went over
to the .Recreation Park to enjoy a
drive around the track; after he had
satisfied himself, he attempted to drive
out -through the half -opened gate, but
the hub of bis cart .caught. and the
outfit collapsed, the seat and himself
following the horse for about 75 yards
before it was brought to a stand. If
he had been sober he would have been
half -killed; as it was only his clothes
were slightly damaged.

JUVENILE HORSE STEALING.—TWO
youngsters named George Hutchison
and John Brimfield, aged less than 12
years,. and belcnging to Clinton, ap-
peared before the P. M. at Goderich,
Friday, on a charge of stealing a horse
from Jonathan Miller. They got the
anidnul and a rig on the story that Mrs
• Hutchison wanted it, and not appear -
in 'iii due time ,a search was made
and they were found near Lucknow
With it. Bromfield was discharged,
And Hutchison goes to the Reforma-
tory for a vear.

• of the railway station has been fasten-
ed a email mite box, in which contri-
butions for the Salvation Army were
received. The box was secured b'y a
•Chain:-tiaveliers and others would ec-
caeionally drop in some change, and
tbe;box•evidently had a few dollars,
intended for a worthy cause, but it
was; too strong a temptation for some
mean thief, ion o stole it the other day.
