FORD & MURPHY Central Butcher Shop, Clinton CITY BUTCHER SHOP By reason of the peculiar dearth of offspring that characterized the car- eers of her royal uncles, the birth of the little princess who afterwards he - came Queen Victoria, in the old brick palace in Kensington, was a significaut event. There was considerable trouble about naming the baby. The father whaled to call her Elizabeth, thinking that It would prove a name to please the peo- ple should she occupy the; throne; but the Prince Regent, afterwards George IV., who wee godfather, together with the Emperor of Russia, gave only the name of Alexandrine to the clergy. The father pleaded that another name be added, and proposed the feminine form of the Regent's own name, Georgiana. But the Regent said that his name could not come in the second place, and as the Emperor must take precedence, he suggested that if the baby must have another name her mother's name be added. So the child was named Alexandrine Victoria, and in infancy was known as the PrIpcess Drina, a name she drop- ped after her accession, I wish to inform the public that I willgnot be undersold by any other person in the business. HIs ADvicE was ACTED UPON BY MR MILES PETTIT, OF WELLINGTON, WHO, AS A RESULT, NOW REJOICES IN RENEWED HEALTH_AN STRENGTH. From the Pioton Times. Mr Miles Pettit, of Wellington, was a recent caller at the Times office. Hejis an old subscriber to the paper, and has for years been one of the most respected busi- nese men of Wellington. He is also pos- sessed of considerable inventive genius, and is the holder of several patents for his own inventions. The Times was aware of Mr Pettit's serious and long ooatinued illness, and was delighted to see that he had been restored to health. In answer to enquiries as to how this had been brought about, Mr Pettit promptly and emphatically replied, "Dr Williams' Pink Pills did it." Being further interrogated as to whether he was willing that the facts should be made pub- lic, he cheerfully consented to give a state- ment for that purpose, which in substance is as follows :—He was first attacked in the fall of 1892, after assisting in digging a cel- lar. The first symptom was lameness in the right hip, whioh continued for nearly A general tit anskingd Business NOTES DISCOUNTED Drafts issued. Interest allowed on deposits. J. The sensa- tions were a numbness and a prioking, which continued to get worse and worse, until he practically lost control of his feet. He could walk but a short distance before his limbs would give out and he would be obliged to rest. He felt that if he could walk forty rode without resting he was ao- oompliehing a great deal. He had the beat of medical attendance, and tried many medicines without any beneficial resells. He remained in this condition for about two years, when be unexpectedly got relief. One day he was in Piston, and was return- ing to Wellington by train. Mr 3n. Soby, of Pioton, wae also a passenger on the train. Mr Soby, it will be remembered, was one of the many who had f Bund benefit from Pink Pills, and had given a testimonial that was published extensively. Having been bane - fitted by Dr Williams' Pink Pills he has ever since been a etannoh friend of the medicine, and noticing Mr Pettit's condi- tion made enquiry as to who he was. Hay • Ing been informed, Mr Soby tapped him on the shoulder and said, "Friend, you look a sick man." Mr Pettit described his oase, and Mr Soby replied, "Take Dr Williams' Pink Pills, I know from experience what virtue there is in them, and I am satisfied they will cure you." Mr Pettit had tried so many things and failed to get relief that he was somewhat skeptical, but the advice was so disinterested, and given eo earnestly that he concluded to give Pink Pills a trial. The rest is shortly summed np. He bought the Pink Pills, used them according to the directions which accompany each box, and was cared. His cure he believes to be per- manent, for it is now fully a year since he discontinued the use of the pille. Mr Pettit• says he believes he would have be- come utterly helpless hod it not been for thin wonderful health restoring medioine. The experience of years has proved that there.ja absolutely no disease due to a viti- ated dbndition of the blood or shattered nerves, that Dr Williams' Pink Pille will not properly onre, and those who are suffer- ing from such troubles would avoid much misery and save money by promptly re- sorting to this treatment. Get the genuine Pink Pills every time, and do not be per- suaded to take an imitation or some other remedy from a dealer, which, for the sake of extra profit to himself, he may say is "just as good." lir Williams' Pink Pills make rioh, red blood, and cure when other medicines fail. The following from the Globe may be information to some of our readers: "A correspondent, noting the increase in the production of gold in Canada, asks whY we have no Fold coin of our own. Because there to no need for it. There is gold In the vaults of the Do- minion to the amount of 16 per cent. of the note issue, and the credit of the Dominion is pledged to the redemption of all the notes in gold. Canadian pa- per money is, therefore as good a mea- eure of value as gold. With such a safe paper currency there would be ab- solute waste in the coining of gold, which wears away in the using and becomes leas valuable. Somnambulists Have Done Many Wonder- ful Things While Asleep. There are many authenticated exam- ples of increased power of mind during sloop. One of the best known to that in which the great naturalist Agassiz eno- oessfully reconstructed from certain re• mains the skeleton of a fossil fish, at which ho had been working unsuooess- fully in his waking moments for several weeks. Another case recorded is that of a lawyer who had been puzzling all day in vain over a difficult case, and who got up at night, and while in a state of somnambulism, wrote down a perfeot explanation of It. The reasons given for this increased power are first, that the brain mind has more force at its dis- posal while the other parts of the body are at rest, and second, that while work- ing in the condition in question, the mind is not distracted by anything ex- ternal and oan oonoentrate all its force on its work. With reference to automatic action of the brain, Carpenter says: "There are many cases in which the brain has obviously worked more clearly and more suucessfully in this automatic condition when left entirely to itself, than when we are cudgeling our brains, so to speak, to get the solution. In- ventors and artisans have often arrived at some desired end suddenly, after put- ting the problem entirely out of their minds for a time. I believe that in all these inetanoes the result is owing to the mind being left to Itself without the disturbing of any emotion. Worrying over a thing prevents the mind from working steadily and evenly." (JLOT INC READY MADE SUITS--•= S3, $4.50, $5, $5.50, $6 and $7. Ordered Clothing from a'7 up. A , EFULL RANGE OF LADIES' UNDERCLOTHING FOR THE SUMMER. Perfect. Satisfaction Guaranteed, it A New Drink Cure. A new specific: for drink craving bas been tried at Bellevue Hospital, New York, with results that are said to have filled the hospital officials with astonish • ment. Five confirmed drunkards wore experimented upon. Within twenty four hours they had lost the taste for liquor, and in four days their eyes were brighter, their stop had lost its listlessness and their nervousness was gone. Several oases of delirium tremens have yielded to the treatment in an equally startling manner. A remarkable thing about the new cure is tho quickness with which it works. Tho men who are admitted ono day will be walking around tho next. The desire for drink is destroyed In from six to twenty-four hours, and all the alcohol is driven odt of the system in from three to five days. The epeoifio is given by the spoonfal. Its effect is to cause the patient to be a6 indifferent to alcohol as before ho ever tasted 11. If bo continues to leave it alone he will never have any desire for 1t again. Of course, he may begin drinking again, and thus reaoqulre the habit'; but he can be cured a second time as easily as before. The morphine habit is equally amenable to the cure, though it takes a little longer than alcoholism. The cocaine habit can be cured in thirty-six hours. Dr. Oppent• heimer, who dleoovered the specific, has had some amusing experiences in over- coming the skepticism of some of his pa- tients. About a year ago two friends of his wound np a dtousslon on the merits of the discovery by making a bet that one of them could take three doses of the medicine on each of two eacoesbive days and then take a drink of whiskey. Dr. Oppenheimer said he couldn't, and the other friend backed his judgment. After taking the medicine the patient went to a saloon and ordered whiskey. On sipping 1t he declared that le bad been doctored, and exclaiming that it was "worse than cod liver oil," refused to try it again. It was two months be- fore he could take even a little claret with his dinner, and he spent a good part of the Intervening time in abusing Dr. Oppenheimer • his ane-' l., MARK THE DIFFERENCE Between Diamond Dyes and Imitations.
