. HUSBAND AT HOME
The stray heir on yoiit should ex-
a-bly match the tint of that on your
wife'e head.
Ninety-nine women in a hundred
would rather see a wan smoke a pipe
in the house than a cigarette, but all
would rather not ]aim snioke at all.
When your shirt buttonholes are big
enough to admit of the passage of a
walnut it is time to buy a new shirt.
The truly bappy man is the fellow
who enjoys his owl wife's society as
much as he would if she were some
other fellow's wife.
It is just as well, after slamming the
door and prancing out of the house, to
go back in a few minutes and leave the
house like a gentleman.
It is a bad plan to gleefully tell of
your boyhood's rascality while your
children are sitting around. They will
never be able to understand why you
want to whale them for doing the
same things teat now .seem so funny
to you.
BENT NEARLY DOUBLE
THE STORY OF A WELL-KNOWN
DELHI MAN.
TORTURED WITH RHEUMATISM FOR NEARLY
TWENTY YEARS—SPENT LARGE SUMS IN A
VAIN SEARCH FOR ERNE WED HEALTH --
How HE AT LAST FOUND IT.
From the Delhi Retorter.
There are very few troubles more wide
spread and none more difficult to eradicate
from the system than rheumatism. The
sufferer is racked with penins that seem un-
bearable, and frequently feel that even
death itself would be a relief. Among
those who have found mach of their lives
miserable by thie dread trouble is Michael
Schott, of Delhi, and having found a means
of release from its agonies, he is anxious
that other sufferers should profit by his ex-
perience. Mr Schott is in the employ of
Meson Quince Bros., millers, and has a
reputation for Sterling integrity among all
who know him. When one of the staff of
the Reporter interviewed him, Mr Schott
gave the facto of his illness and recovery as
follows:—Ile had been a sufferer from rheu-
matism since about 18 years of age. At
times he was confined to bed but obtained
no rest day nor night from the excruciat-
ing pains ne was undergoing. Again be
was able to go about and follow his employ-
ment, but even then frequently walked
about in an almost doubled up condition.
Then again he would have another relapse,
and would be forced to take to his bed. Dar-
ing all these years he was almost continu-
ally doctoring, bat never obtained anything
more than temporary relief for the large
sums he expended in this way, Having
failed to obtain relief at home he went to
Simooe for treatment but received no per-
manent benefit, and soon after Doming
home 'he was as bad as ever. It will be
readily understood that he was serionely
discouraged, and had oome to look upon his
case are hopeless. Finally he was urged to
try Dr Williams' Pink Pills, and after hesi-
tating at spending any more money, in
what be now considered a vain pursuit of
health, be at last consented to give them a
trial. By the time be had used a half doz-
en boxes there was no longer any doubt in
his mind that be was steadily improving,
and the treatment was then gladly oontinn-
ed. When he had taken a dozen boxes he
found himself entirely recovered, entirely
free from pain and from all stiffness of
joints, and he is now able to do as hard a
days work as any man In the village. He
has now been free from his old enemy for
so long a period that he feels his cure
is permanent, and ie consequently an
enthusiastic admirer of Dr Williams' won-
derful Pink Pills, and urges all who are
similarly suffering to give them a trial,
feeling confident ant that they will provequite
are efficaoious as they did in his cage.
Dr. Williams' Pink Pills strike at the
root of the disease, driving it from the sys-
tem and restoring the patient to health and
strength. In cases of paralysis, spinal
troubles, locomotor ataxia, rheumatism,
sciatica, erysipelas, scrofulous troubles,
etc., these pills are superior to all other
treatments. They are also a specific for
the troubles which makes the livee of so
many women a burden, and speedily re-
stores the rich glow of health to pale and
sallow cheeks. Men broken down by over-
work, worry or excesses, will find in Pink
Pills a certain cure. Scid by all dealers or
sent by mail on receipt of 50 cents a box or
$2.60 for six boxes, by addressing the Dr.
Williams Medicine Co., Brockville, Ont., or

THE FORESTRY MOVEMENT,
servauee of Arbor Day in the se11o01.e
the effect of clearing the forests on the
water supply and other subjects are
dealt with. Among the contents of
the report are carefully prepared spec-
ial articles on the cultivation and eco-
nomic value of some forest trees, by
Mr A. Kirkwood, of the Crown Lands
Department, and a well written des-
cription of Algonquin Park by Mr T.
M. Gibson, Anyone desirous of ob-
taining a copy of the report can do so
by sending his naane and address to
Mr Thomas Southworth, Bureau of
Forestry, Parliament Buildings, To-
ronto.
Among the economic reforms which
areat present:engaging the attention of
statesmen and legislators there is none
of greater importance to the future
welfare than the appreciation of the
principles of practical forestry in the
management of our timber resources.
Older nations have long since been com-
pelled by the neceseaties of the case, to
take stringent measurers for preser-
ving the forests from destruction, and
Canadians should he wise enough to
profit by their experience, without
waiting for the worst evils caused by
deforestation. The annual report of
Mr Thomas Southworth, Clerk of For-
estry, just received, contains a great
deal of valuable information on the
subject. It presents a comprehensive
review of the progress of the science
of forestry, and the more important
developments of the movement in the
United States and elsewhere. The
problem in Ontario is dealt with at
length, and some conclusions present-
ed which show the question in a new
light and tend to remove many popu-
lar m isconceptions. Mr Southworth
has no sympathy with the view that
forests should be kept untouched by
the axe. He points out that the true
economical policy is to grow trees
wherever they can be grown better
than any other crop, and to maintain
perpetual reserves on the compara-
tively sterile broken soil that is unlit
for farming purposes. But he would
treat timber as a crop to be harvested
when mature, care being taken, how-
ever, to ensure its reproduction. Far-
mers will find much in the report to
interest and instruct them regarding
the utilization of waste lands by tree -
planting. Many facts and statistics
are given in connection with lumber-
ing, pulp -making and wood manufac-
tures, showing what kinds of timbi r
are valuable for manufacturing pun•
poses, or likely to become so. The ab•

Ernest McQuade, a married man, resi-

oaase he is still living. Thursday morn-
ing he left his home early for work. Ae he
reached the Gutta Peroha Rubber Works,
the laoe of his shoe became undone, and
he bent over with one boot on the railway
track to tighten it. At that moment a
train of fourteen heavily loaded freight
oars name lumbering down the siding.
McQuade was struck and knocked pro-
strate between the rails, and, the entire
fourteen oars passed over him 'before they
could be stopped. The train crew, who
witnessed the uooident, were horrified, and
they ran to pick up what they thought
would be McQuade's mangled remains.
Instead, the workman arose himself and
walked around in a dazed way nail he re-
ooverod his senses. One of his hips was
bruised by the impact with the oar, but
this was all the injury he sustained.

SINCE PAPA DOESN'T DRINK
My papa's awful happy now,
And my mamma's happy, too,
'Cause papa doesn't drink no more
The way he used to do.
And everything's so jolty now,
'Tain't like it used to be,
When papa never staid at home
With poor mamma and me:
It made me feel so very bad
To see my mamma cry,
And though she'd smile I'd spy the tears
A -biding in her eye,
Bat now she laughs just like we giris—
It sounds so cute, I think—
And singe such pretty little songs,
Since papa doesn't drink.
You see mypretty Sunday dress,
It's every
bit all new;
It ain't made out of mamma's dread,
The way she used to do.
And mamma's got a pretty cloak,
All trimmed with funny fur,
And papa's got some nine new olothee
And goes to church with her.
My papa says that Christmas time
Will very soon be here,
And maybe good old Santa Claus
Will find our house this year.
I hope he'll bring some Dandy, and
to dolly that can wink.
He'll know where our home ie, I'm sure,
Since papa doesn't drink.

AYER'S PILLS
"I would like to add my testimony to
that of others who have used Ayer's
Pills, and to say that I have taken them
for many years, and always derived the
best results from their use. For stom-
ach and liver troubles, and for the cure
of headache caused by these derange-
ments, Ayer's Pills cannot be equaled.
When my Mende ask me what Is the
best remedy for disorders of the stom-
ach, liver, or bowels, my invariable
answer is, Ayer's Pills. Taken in sea-
son, they will break up a cold, prevent
la grippe, check fever, and regulate the
digestive organs. They are easy to
take, and are, indeed, the best all-round
family medicine I have ever known."—
