Sawing Wood. THE EDUCATION.0L R1ikQT
Hon. J. M. Gibson brought down Thurs-
A TORONTONIAN OF 85 YEARS WHO
CAN STILL HANDLE A BUCKSAW.
To find a man of 85 sawing and split,
ting wood without any trouble would
surprise most of us to whom such vigorous
exercise is -to say the least -distasteful,
but to hear the circumstances under which
it took place but increases the wonder.
'• Our representative visited Mr. John
Clyne, 1941 Sackville st., City, a safferer
from kidney trouble for the past xo pears,
having undergone two operations during
that time. Mr. Clyne was for some 3o
tears engaged in the express and cartage
usiness for such well-known firms wSwan
Bros., Hugh Miller, J.P., Wm. Rennie,
etc., and having been a resident of Toronto
for go years, is well known. Mrs. Clyne
was interviewed at their residence and
said: ' Mr. Clyne was in a very bad state,
his urine almost black with sediment ander
he was expecting to have another opera
tion such as he had before. The pain fn
his back was at times very severe and kept
him from doing any work. Mr. Clyne got
a box of Doan's Kidney Pills at J, R.
Lee's drug store and was relieved from the
first dose; the urine is now clear, no
trouble or burning sensation, and today
you would say that although 85 YcAn old,
e has taken on a new lease of life.' Mrs.
Clyne then took our reporter to the card,
and to his surprise found Mr. C. sawing
wood for over Sunday. He emphatically
endorsed every word Mrs. Clyne had said.
' From the very first they did me good; I
am well known here and you can site m
name as reference. Two weeks ago I
expected it a operated on,perhaps to

GREASE THE WHEELS.
"Why don't you grease the wheels,"
said a farmer to a man driving a heavy
waggon past him, which creaked and
groaned as the horses strained under
the heavy burden; it will mean less
labor to your horses and less noise
about nothing."
Let us take the farmer's advice to
ourselves, and grease the wheels of life
as we go along its road. How much
less creaking and groaning and strain-
ing there would .be, if everybody re-
membered to grease ;their neighbor's
wheels as they go da by day, A lit-
tle love expressed, a little pity proved
by some trifling act, a little timely help
onered, costs theiver little, but what
a change it mates I The sad face
brightens, the heavy eye lights up, the
.tires .hands -gain fresh strength, . the
weary heart takes new courage. The
sharp word wrung from irritation of
spirit will be stifled at its uttei ance,
and instead of harsh discordant creak-
ing and groaning -and oftentimes
"noise about nothing" -the wheels will
run smoothly because of the touch of
grease given at the right moment and
in the right place.
Be ready with the pleasant look and
gentle answer. Be ready with the
kind took and gentle hand, and what a
world of music you will make around
you 1 How smoothly the wheels will
roll, no matter how rough the road
may be under them 1 Do what you
can to turn the grating discord to
sweetness. Watch for an opportunity
to "grease the wheels."
CURED OF CHRONIC CATARAR
A Remarkable Cure -J. W. Jennison,
Gilford, spent between $200 and $800 in
consulting doctors; tried Diznn's and all
other treatments but got no benefit. One
box or Chase's Catarrh Cue did me more
good than all other remedies, in fact I con-
sider myself cured, and with a 26 cent box
at that.
A SOFT ANSWER.
Young Sloam was ever noted for hiQ
perfect breeding, and though as a col -
I! be was sometimes a trifle
the worse for a late supper, he never
forgot to be true to his code. On one
such occasion, after amost determined
effort to enter a house which he be-
lieved his own, he was met at the door
by the scantily attired master of the
mansion wish information as to his
whereabogts, and the added news that
the householder had a sick wife and
sparions articles have been placed on the
market, and, tbough in appearance and
colorthey may respmble tbq genuine, they
have an altogether different 'effect on the
system. The writer was once in a store
when Pink Pills were asked for by a cus-
tomer. The dealer, hadn't them but said
that he had something "just as good."
The public are warned against this "just
as good scheme which is too often resorted
by Borne store keepers. It should be borne
in mind,Dr. Williams' Pink Pills are a
specific for all diseases arising from an
impoverished condition of the blood Web
shattered condition of the nervous forces,
jiqb as St. Vitus Bance, l000motor ataxia,
rlieumati6m, paralysis, sciation, the after
effects of Is grippe, lose of appetite, head-
ache; dizziness, chronic erysipelas scrofula,
etc.,They are also a certain pure for the
tr,)nbQs peculiar to the female system,
correcting irregularities, suppressiots and
all forms:..of. female weakness, building
anew the blood and restoring the glow of
health to pale and Ballow cheeks. In the
case of men they effect a radical cure in all
casea arising from mental worry, overwork
or excesses of any nature. Sold only in
boxes bearing the firm's trade mark and
wrapper (printed in red ink) and may be
had of all druggists or direct by mail from
Dr. Williams' Medicine Company Brock-
ville, Ont., or Schenectady, N.Y., at 50
cents a box, or six boxes for $2.50.
A MAN'S REAL STRENGTH.
The real strength of a man is in his
character. Popular estimate makes it
consist in his circumstances. A man's
strength is measured by the number of
his friends, by his wealth, by his social
position, and his influence is in pro-
portion to his i eputation in the world's
esteem. But, in truth, a man is strong
only in his manhood. How much
there is in a man you must ascertain
by measuring his character. A man is
not strong by what -he has, but by
what he is; and in measuring what ai,
man is, we are to measure has charac-
ter. Now, character is not a massive
unit; it is a fabric, rather. It is an
artificial whole made up by the inter-
weaving of ten thousand threads.
Every facility is a spinner, spinning
each day its threads, and almost eve-
ry day threads of a different color.
Myriads and myriads of webbed pro-
ducts proceed from the many active
faculties of the human soul, and char-
acter is made up by the weaving to-
gether of all these innumerablethreadb
of daily life. Its strength is not mere-
ly in the strength of some simple unit,
but in the strength of numerous ele-
ments.
