The cheap beef of Chicago would
drive Canadian producers out of their
borne market under the Liberal policy
jof Free Trade.
It is the home market that the Eng-
lish farmer is now pleadingfor, and it
is the borne market that te Liberals
ask Canadian farmers to throw away
as worthless,
Free Trade, as the Liberals practice
it, means a tax on tea, sugar and cof-
fee and coal, which an intelligent pro-
tective policy admits into the country
free of duty.
The Goderich Signal characterizes
the statements of the Farmers' Sun, re-
produced in these columns last week,
as "absolutely and deliberately false."
It would appear from the Signal that
the editor of the Sun asked Mr. Mc-
Gillicuddy to accept a nomination for
East Huron and offered him the solid
Patron vote. The offer, the Signal de-
clares, was declined. It will now be
in order for the Sun to produce some
proof or forever hold its peace.
The usefulness of County Councils is
demonstrated very forcibly in the
Cresent. ot ncil of Huron durimane work of the ng the present
year. THE NEWS -RECORD has for sev-
enteen years advocated cOnsistently
