READER'S CONTRIBUTION.—WO have
been handed a poem on Bayfield, writ-
ten by a little boy, for which we hope
to find space next issue. It would as-
sist us greatly it readers who know
any item of interest, or who are willing
to contribute some short article on any
matter of local concern, would hand it
to us, or leave it at any of the stores,
where we could get it. We are pleased
to be able to give our readers this week
a few lines from the talented pen of
the rector of trinity church:
. ON BAYFIELD,
(Written tor the Advertiser, by Rev. T. L.
A rinotrong.)
From early times has Bayfield stood
Upon Lake Huron's shore;
Some of us think 'tie time it should
Attain to eometbing more. 0
The boy grows up to be a man,
And labors for renown,
And Bayfield village quickly can
Aspire to be a town.
With a railroad running north and south,
And e. branch line to the east,
Ard shipping from the river's mouth,
Boon all would be increased.
With cottages on all the hills,
Where weary ones can rest,
Ana !Lo aunaot sky and water fills
Their minds with thoughts of the blest.
Through orchards and thrcagh cedar groves
And by our peaceful stream,
The weary pity toiler roves,
Of Paradise to dream.
With cborohes where you may worship
And good accommodation; [God,
No need you should go farther abroad
For a Rummer's recreation.
BASE BALL. — The first base ball
game of the season was played on Mon-
day afternoon, between the campers
,ftoin Seaforth and a 'team picked up
around the village. Great interest,
centered in the game, which was con-
tested on the Square. The Bayfield
boys won this game by 19 to 5, but the
campers will meet them again, on Fri-
day afterdoon, at foot ball.
LEAVING—Rev.T. L,ArmstronE, who ,1
has so faithfully filled the dininon of r Want' Bargains

Rector of Trinity church during the
past year, has decided to resign his
charge here and leave for Dungannon ---IN ALL LINES OF
about the lam ofis August. Hen iss a euej DRY L 1OODS, GROCERIES,. CROCKERY, HARDWARE,
tured and amiable gentleman, and we 1
are sorry to lose him from our village.
His last sermon was preached on Sun-
day last. FLOUR AND FEED.
WITH FLYING COLORS—We are very
sorry that by some accident we over-
looked one nnportant item of news
last week, namely the report of how
creditably the Hayfield Orangemen and
Young Britons carried themselves on
the 12th of July, at Seaforth. The
Orangemen had procured new caps
this year, to match' those worn by the
Young Britons, and when the two
Bayfield companies marched along to-
gether, under the beautiful new banner
sent out. from Ireland, it made` the int
rnense crowds which lined the streets
send up cheer after cheer for the gal-
lant band from the breezy village by
the lake. Consequently it was no sur-
prise when it was announced that Hay -
held lodge had been awarded the -prize
few the largest • and best looking com-
pany. However, it was a disappoint-
ment to many when it was tear ned that
the new banner could not get a prize,
though judged worthy, on account of
the rule—"one lodge one prize."
HOME INDUSTRY. — It has always
been a matter to be regretted by those
who have the interests of Bayfield at,
heart, that it has been found necessary
to ask outsiders in here to supply our
wants. But for some time past, it'
seemed impossible to get anyone to
start a butcher shop, though there was
undoubtedly money in the business.
Now Mr J. W. Brandon has moved
here from Belgrave, and opened a shop
next to the bakery. His delivery wag-
gon is at every door' in the morning,
and we would urge those who buy
meat to patronize home industry in
preferene6, to outside trade. If the
money is spent in the village, it has a
chance of returning to you, though
perhaps indirectly, while that carried
off by neighboring tradesmen is just
so much of a loss to the village. The
home dealer who gives equal valve for
your money, and as good if not better
service, should have the preference
over strangers.
BREEZY BRIEFLETS.—Good evening!
Have a copy of the Bayfield Advertiser
No. 3, and when you have read it send
it to seine Of'ycnr friends. "The sound
of the trowel and hammer has not been
heard in Bayfield so much for twenty
years,":said a citizen in conversation
the other day; and it is true. The fish-
ing tug Despatch steamed along the
beach, close to the campers' city, one
day last week. The proprietor of the
River Hotel has placed a very fine
register in his house, wherein visitor's
are requested to put their narnes and
addresses; it will no doubt fill rapidly
at this popular resort. A picnic party
from the Huron road, near Seatorth,
spent Thursday a,t the grove. ,There
will be a meeting of the St anley Branch
Agricultural Society in Bayfield, on
Saturday, 27th inst., at 2 p.m. Rev J.
T. Kerrin, of Mitchell, formerly of
Bayfield, and Rev T. L. Armstrong, of
Trinity church, will exchange pulpits
next Sabbath. There will be a lively
game of football on Clan Gregor square
next Friday afternoon,wheu, the camp-
ers will line up to meet the Bay$e1d-
boys; every one should turn out and
see the fun. Mr John King and family
have moved from Dr Stanhury's house:
on the Square to Mr Ed. Elliott's `house
on Louisa street. With the flags fly-
ing ovor every hotel and summer cot-
tage, Bayfield has quite a resort ap-
pearance; it would be well if some of
the private residences would do the
same, following' the example of other
famous watering places during the
summer season. RevsW. Graham and
Colin Fletcher, of Thames road, will
exchange pulpits on Sabbath next.
Reeve Burns now rides a wheel. A
garden party will be held at the rec-
tory, on Tuesday evening, 30th inst.,
when Revs Ifodgina, of Seaforth, and
Kerrin, of Mitchell, will deliver ad -
