Anxiety.
The Great Spring 'Medicine
Sweeps Away These
Troubles.
In almost every Canadian home, one or
more members Buffer from indigestion, dye.
pepsin, headaobe, nervousness or sleepless -
nese. In the great majority of oases the
doctors have failed to effeot a permanent
Dore, and the common patent medicinea.of
our time have only prolonged suffering
and agony.
How different the results which those
who have used Paine's Celery Compound !
they have in every case been raised to a
condition of perfect health, robustness and
mental vigor. Thousands of renewed and
re-created men and women in Canada, will
forever remember that their lives were
saved and made happy by Paine's Celery
Compound.
Mr Hugh J. Riley, of 42 Agnes Street,
St. !Henry, ,Montreal, is one of the many
who have given public testimony for the
benefit of sufferers in Canada. Mr Riley
writes as follows :—
"I wish to publicly acknowledge the fact
that I am indebted to your Paine's Celery
Compound for health, strength and life.
For.over three years I was a terrible suf-
ferer from indigestion, severe pains in the
stomach and headache. In addition to
these serious troubles, I had no appetite or
Xelieh for food, and hardly knew wbat it
Was to live a full night's rest. This con.
Rifkin of sleeplessness and anxiety made
!me very nervone, and I was fast becoming
Unfitted for my daily work. After all
Daher medicines had failed, I was fortu-
nately advised to use Paine's Celery Com-
pound, and now, I am delighted to declare
ithat-•ir has no equal in the world for remov-
er Wing such daiiger'oua 'troubles as-- I-enffered
from. I am daily gaining in strength,
sleep well every night, and my appetite is
good and healthy. I strongly recommend
paine's celery compound to all who need a
sellable and honest medicine, and one that
is Sure to cure."
Dr.Black, once the leading ministers
of Glasgow, and another clergyman,
Saving a holiday in Cumberland, at-
tended a little Scotch church, and pur-
posely went late and got into a remote
corner of the church so that they
might not be seen by the officiating
minister. They learned, to their dis-
may, that they had been "spotted"
when:they heard the minister say, in
the intercessory prayers: "Lord, have
mercy on Thy ministering servants
Whet have popped in on us so unexpect-
edly, one of, whom will preach in the
afternoon and the other in the even-
ing."

A young lady organist in a church
was captivated with the young pastor
of a church in the next street and was
delighted to hear one week that by ex-
change he was to preach the next Sun-
day in her own church. The organ
was pumped by an obstreperous old
sexton who would often stop when he
thought the organ voluntary bad last-
ed long enough. This day the organ -
ie .Was anxious that all should go well,
eridees the service was about to begin
b'ote a note intended solely for
thetweexton's eye. He took it, and in
spite of her agonized beckonings car-
riedlet straight to the preacher. What
was that gentleman's; astonishment
when he read: "Oblige me this morn-
ing by blowing away till I give you a
signal to stop.—Miss Allen."

A few days ago an Ontario druggist said:
"The ladies are buying more Diamond Dyes
justpow than in past years. They come
to me and bay one package as an experi-
ment, and find the dye so easy to use that
they now color most of their old clothing,
and Dome out With new gowns, oloaks,
jackets and suite for the whole family. In
may experience of 20 years ae a druggist, I
meet say, that Diamond Dyee aro the only
package dyes that have lived and worked
themselves up to the highest point of po-
pularity,"
Beware of imitation package dyes, they
ifte frauds and deceptions, and when used

pointment. Ask for the Diamond; see that
the name "Diamond" is on eaoh package;

It has been definitely decided by relatives
and friends of William David Welter, who
was sentenced to death at St. Thomas, to
eironlate petitions throe ghost Western On-
tario. praying that his sentence be com-
muted to a term of imprisonment,. It has
been deoided to circulate them at once, and
if ertoceasful in Bemiring enough signatnree
they will be preeented to the Minister bf
Justice. They contend that Welter was
need as a tool by Hondershott to carry out
his deviliah scheme, and on that account
should not have to pay the same penalty
as his oo-oonnpirator, who they contend
concocted the -scheme for hie own person-
al benefit.

That when sepses the tlnie of Harvest

A man strolled in to church and the
verger followed him up and, tapping him
on the shoulder and pointing to a small
our that had followed him to the sacred
edifice, said: "Dogs are not admitted."
"That's not my dog," replied the vis-

Irurmese. wife's Strntegy.
If a Burmese wife and husband quarrel
and determine to separate, the wife, who
always does all the marketing, goes out
and buys two little candles of equal
length, which are made especially for
this use. She brings them home. She
and her husband sit down on the floor,
place the candles between them, and
light them simultaneously. One candle
stands for him, the other for her. The
one whose candle burns out first rises and
goes out of the house forever, with no-
thing but what ho or she may have
on. The other takes all the propertyl
This looks fair enough on the face of
it, but it often happens that, the wife on
her way home with the canles takes a
tiny scraping 'from the bottom of one of
them. A very little will be enough. If
the husband and the house are empty of
pretty muoh everything but children, she
takes the shortened candle and walks out
free and content. But if the house is
well furnished, and the husband's posses-
sions are considerable, he gets the short
oandle and does the walking.

Not but what, believe, me, pray,
I moat certainly Phan miss them.

In our frequent lip -communion;
Never yet halve I been o1oved

Of pernisleirdboters' papers;
For these journals now declare,

That each kiss in which we share
Reeks (excuse the word) with peril.
That is why I'm forced to say,
"Take, oh! take those lips away!"

One of the most curious evident. ever
known recently happened at Dieppe,
France. A Canadian bark loaded with

Tho bark was entirely destroyed.

In a number of German offices antisep-

covered with discs of anti-septio paper,
arid after each conversion the paper is
torn off, thus leaving a fresh one for the
next customer.

Mrs G. Bird writes from Harriston,
Ont., under date Sept. 15th, 1894: "While
on a visit to Toronto, and taking in the
sights of the Exhibition, I was taken very
i11 with sick headache and dizziness, a life-
long complaint of mine, and I thought I
would have to take t) my bed, as I have al-
ways had to do when my head is bad. I
was also very much troubled with a very
tired feeling when arising in the morning.
Hearing of Dr. Chase's Kidney -Fiver Pills,
thought I would try a box, and I must say
'tis indeed a wonderful medicine in pill
form, for after taking one pill my head felt
better, and before I had taken half a box
was entirely ojred and had no return of
stomach or head trouble." Dr. Chase's
Kidney -Liver Pills are put up in yellow
wrappers which bear the photograph and
signature of Dr. A.W. Chase. None others
are genuine. They are an honest remedy
