HEALTH! DISEASE! DEATHS
THESE THREE.
Health is the normal working of the hu-
man system in all its part.
Disease is the obstructed or defective
working.
Death is the final cessation of the func-
tions of life.
"When one member suffers all the mem-
bers suffer.” When the throat or lungs
are sick the whole holy is sick. Just here
all past treatment has been based on irra-
tional and unscientific lines as regards
colds, coughs, throat and all lung ailments.'
No account w'as taken of the general sys•
tem, and hence vary simple cases were al-
lowed to develope into deep seated diseases,
to end in death. In many instances the
remedies employed to combat.the disease
did more harm than good. Yet the "half -
century, old reliables" are to -day palmed
off on the suffering as great "medical din•
coveries"! Pine Malt is based on new
lines. It recognizes the law of systemic
sympathy in disease. It is a unique and
perfectly local and constitutional remedy.
Pine Malt is not "half a century" in the
rear of medical progress. Remedies
thought good, even two years ago, have
been proven worthless in many instances,
and brushed aside as ancient cobwebs,
Pine Malt is abreast of medical progress.
It promptly relieves in all cases, and cures
curable cases. It is soothing, healing, sti-
mulatiiig, the newest, most palatable and
best, In chronic or lingering cases ask
your druggist for Pine Malt and Hypo -
phosphites instead of plain Pine Malt.
At an enteetainnient once, where
Lady Randolph Churchill was playing
on the piano, a tall youth was observed
paying a languid and tattler insolent
attention to the music, standing close
enough to the performer to have his
comments easily overheard by her.
Lord "Randy" was close at hand, too,
and presently heard the vapid youth
remark : " Deuced fine music, you
know, but it lacks weal soul—it lacks
weal soul." To the critic's astonish-
ment a muscular young man, with a
lig mustache, whom he had not not-
iced before, whispered in his ear: "For
a shilling I'd wallop the life -out of
you !" He hastened to withdraw, but
without discovering the identity of the
author of the menace. The next clay,
to his delight, he received an invita-
tion to the Churchill's home, which he
accepted with avidity. On entering
the house he was met by his threaten-
ing neighbor of the night before, who,
he at once discerned, roust be Lord
Randolph. He proceeded no further
1 than the entrance hall, for Churchill
beckoned to the drawing zoom, and out
floated Lady Churchill. "This fellow
has ,carne to apologyize to you for his
remarks last night, hissed Lord Ran-
dolph. " Now"— to the stranger—
"down on your knees !" Down went
the dandy, lisping out the most abject
plea for forgiveness. Then he was
turned over to the footman to be put
ignominiously out of the door, while
the host followed his retreating figure
with a roar of derisive laughter.
COLD IN THE HEAD AND HOW TO
CURE IT.
One of the most unpleasant and danger-
ous maladies that afflicts Canadiangg at this
season is cold in the head. Unpleasant,
because of the dull, heavy heaeache, in-
flammed nostrils and other disagreeable
symptoms accompanying it; and danger-
ous, because if neglected it develops into
catarrh, with its disagreeable hawking and
spitting. foal breath ,frequent loss of taste
and smell, and in•many oases ultimately
developing into consumption. Nasal Balm
is the only'; emedy yet discovered that will
instantly relieve cold in the head and cures
in a few applications, while its faithful use
will effectually eradicate the worst Daae of
catarrh. Capt. D. H. Lyon, president of
the C.P.R. Car Ferry, Prescott, Ont., says
—"I need Nasal Balm for a prolonged case
of cold in the head. Two applications ef-
fected a cure in lees than 24 hours. I
would not take $100 for my bottle of Nasal
Balm, if I could not replace it." Sold by
all dealers, or sent by mail postpaid at 50
cents per bottle, by addressing G. T. Ful-
ford & Co., Montreal.

I)Y FOR THE DISEASE DISCOVERED.
Mr James McLean, a resident of Lefroy,
Simooe County, Ont., is known to every
man, woman and ohild for miles around
the vicinity of his home, and all know of
the long years during which his •oondition
has been that of life and death. Mr Mc-
Lean tells of his injury, his years of tor-
ture, and his subsequent release from the
agonies of locomotor ataxia, in the follow-
ing vivid language:
"In the year 1880 I was thrown from a
scaffold, falling on my back on a stone pile.
I was badly hurt, and narrowly escaped
death. Plasters and liniments were ap-
plied, and I seemed to get somewhat better.
But the apparent improvement was short
lived. My feet began to get unusually cold.
and nothing that could be done would warm
them. The trouble then spread to my lege,
and from the waist down I was attacked
with shooting pains flying along the nerves
in thousands, and causing the most ter- T. T.
rible torture for days and nights at a time.
I could get no relief save from the injec-

tions of morphine. Six physicians treated
me at different times; but appeared only
faintly to understand 'iffy trouble, and could
do nothing for my relief. Some of the doc-
tors declared my trouble was rheumatism,
but two of them said it was a disease of the
spinal cord, that the trouble would get
worse and that sooner or later my arms
would become affected. This prediction
proved true. My left hand dropped at the
wrist joint and hung dead and cold, and I
had no more control of it than if the hand
was not on me, Fly blisters and electricity
were resorted to without avail. My stom-
ach was next attacked with a burning, ach-
ing, nauseating pain, causing the moat dis-
tressing vomiting, and I often thought I
wculd not see morning. I have vomited al-
most continually for thirty-six hours, and
nothing but morphine or chloroform could
i;eaden the anguish I suffered. But worse
trouble was in store for me. I lost control
of my bowels and water, and my condition
became most horrible, necessitating con-
stantly the greatest care and watchfulness.
I was now suffering from the top of my
head toithelpoint of my toes. I saw doable,
and had to keep my eyes fixed steadily on
the ground to make a step at all, and the
moment I raised my eyes I would stagger
and if I fall were not grasping something.
I could not take a single step in the dark.
For nine long years I Buffered all the hor-
rors of a living death. In 1889 I was ad-
mitted to the Toronto General Idospital,
where I was treated for four months. I
was told that my trouble was locomotor
ataxia, and incurable, and I returned home
no better. After returning home I had
further medical treatment, but with no bet-
ter results than before. Finally 1 was giv
en the following certificate of incurability :

A. T. LITTLE, M. D.
About this time I was strongly urged to
try Dr Williams Pills, and oh how I wish
I had known of this great remedy years ago!
What anguish and torture I would have
been eparedl Soon after beginning the use
of Pink Pills I found myself improving.
The trains left me and I was able to die•
continue the use of the morphine. I re-
gained control of both bowels and bladder,
and gradually a feeling of life returned to
my legs and arms. I can now walk with -
oat the old of either crutches or sticks and
can take long strides. My stomach trouble
has all left me, and I oan eat as heartily as
ever in my life. My friends, who never ex-
pected to see me about again, are astonish-
ed at the wonder Dr Williams' Pink Pills
have wrought in me. When I began tl-e
use of the pills, my weight was reduced to
136 pounds, avid it has now increased to
165. I am a new man and it ie not possible
for me to say enough in praise of your mar-
vellous medicine. My wife also joins me in
thanks, and says it was a happy day for
her when I began the use of Dr Williams'
Pink Pills, as since then she has been able
to get rest at night, which she had not done
for so many long years before. I hope
Heaven may direct this into the hands of
some other poor sufferer, who may find as
I did, release from a living death through
your great lifesaving remedy.
Yours} very gratefully,
JAMES MCLEAN.
