Oh, the misery of those moments are beyond all description and death would really have been a welcome visitor. "Now comes the part that astounded the physicians. Rev. Mr Gundy, a clergyman who visited me in my last hours, as he sup- posed, told me of the marvellous cures of paralysis that had been performed by Dr. William's Pink Pills for Pale Pale. I started to take the pills about April 28 and a week after that felt an improvement in my condition. There was a warm, tingling sensation in the limbs that had been en- tirely dead, and I soon began to move my feet and hands. The freezing -point of water is 32 by the Fahrenheit thermometer; but it is possible, by t aking certain precautions, to cool water several degrees below the freezing -point without its freezing. The experiment can he performed with very cheap and simple appara- tus, but it requires some little care to carry it through successfully. The ap• paratus you need is a "t est -tube" about half an inch in diameter (you can get this from any druggist for a cent or two) and a cheap thermometer; also some salt and cracked ice or snow, and a containing -vessel about the size of a quart measure. In the first place, clean the test-tube thoroughly; then put in about an inch and a half of pure water, distilled, if you can get it, and boil over a candle flame to remove the air from the water. Boil away the water so that there is just enough left to cover the bulb of the thermometer when it is placed in the test-tube. Mark with a the the freezing -point on the stem of the thermometer, and remove from the board to which it is fastened. Put the thermometer in the test-tube so that the bulb is just clear of the bottom of the tube, holding it there by means of a piece of paste - hoard, which rests on the top of the tube and through which the thermo- meter passes. Now put a couple of drops of oil in the test-tube. This will spread and form a thin film over the surface of the water. The test-tube is now to he putin a mixture of salt and crushed ice.—Harper's Young People.
