BUILD UP.
When the system is . run down, a
person becomes an easy prey to Con-
sumption or Scrofula. Many valuable
lives are saved by using Scott's Emul-
sion as 'soon as a decline in health is
observed.
Mi's. De Flat :-"Have you anything
new in folding beds ?"
Dealer :-"Only this, madame, and it
really is quite a success. On arising in
the morning you touch a spring, and
it turns into a washstand and bathtub.
After your bath, you touch another
spring, and it becomes a dressing case,
with a French plate mirror. If you
breakfast in your room a slight pres-
sure will transform it into an extension
table. After breakfast, you press
these three buttons at once, r,nd you
have an upright piano. That's all it
will do except that when you die it
can he changed into a rose -wood
coffin."

is designed by Mr. John D. Kelly, of Toronto,
and is one of the most brilliant and attractive
things in the way of a cover ever done in the
Dominion. Three pictures, instead of ono, are
given away with the Number this year, and
"Charmed by the Song Bird" has only to be
seen to be admired. The subject is a group of
children Battening to the birds. It was painted
by G. A. Reid (whose famous pictures, "Mort-
gaging the Homestead " and "Foreclosing the
Mortgage," our readers will remember having
seen at the Toronto Fair) and is reproduced in
the cheerful colors of real life by the newly
discovered process called photo -lithography.
Riga great picture. No. 2 Supplement, " Play-
mates," is a French pastel and a marvel of
dainty coloring. No. 31 n black and white, called
" A Difficult Trick." is the first popular repro-
duction of an old-fashioned steel engraving by
T. Webster. On the expiry of the copyright
Tho Sheppard Publishing Co. (Ltd.)at once had
a plate made, of which they are proprietors,
and what formerly could not be bought for less
than ten dollars they now giyyi with the Christ -

not be equalled. Tho three pictures have been
admired by'a11 who have soon them. Tho lead-
ing story in the Christmas Number is by Robert
Barr, recently associated with Jerome K.
Jerome in publishing tho London Miler, but
better 'known as Lula Sharp, whose writings
made the ,Detroit Free Press famous. His
story, Ono Day's Courtship, occupies fifteen
pages. !The scene is laid in Canada, and the
Illustrations are capital. Other stories aro :
The Shade of Helen, by Frannie Morison ; Le
Loup Garon, by Clifford Smith; Why Jeannie
Went Back, by Edmund E. Sheppard ; The
Passing of Boggs the Club Man, by Margaret
Harvey, and An Heroin Imbecile, by Joe Clark.
There aro beautifully illustrated poems by J.
W. Bengongh and Reuben Butohart, Koppel)
Strange and James A. Tucker. There are local
canvassers out (it not, someone should take hold
of it) and our readers should Goo the book. It
coats fifty cents (pictures and all), and is fur
niched in tubus ready for mailing.
