Afterwards he called on Mr. Peter McDougall, sr., for the purpose of having his far fanned and noted trotting horse "Donald" clipped. Mr. McDougall is quite an expert with the clippers. GOOD HOG. -Last week your corres- pondent called at the stock farm of Mr. Wm. Elliott, of the 4th con., and in- spected his herd of Hereford cattle and Poland China pigs and I Must say I was highly pleased with that gentle- man's stock, especially a Poland China hog .recently purchased from Mr. Young, of Colborne township. He was fore- man for, the Hon: T. M. Elliott. Dann. -On Thursday night Dec. 28th, Alexander Hamilton, .one of the oldest residents of the Cut Line, departed this life. Deceased was a Christian in every sense of the term; a loving father and. kind neighbor; and was highly respected by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. Crowded out last week, ' Mr. James Traqueer, a young farmer residing here, last week while pitching some hay in one of the mows in his barn, missed his footing and fell to the floor, the fork handle entering his abdo- men nearly six inches, died from his injuries on the 20th inst. Iie was a quiet, inoffensive, kind-hearted man. He was unmarried.• Mr. Frank Fitzgerald and sister, Sophrona, arrived home last week both looking well. They had been residing in Dakota for the last three years. Every one extends to them a hearty welcome, especially the members of the E. P. League. They were both mem- bers of the League before they went to g Dakota. Miss Fitzgerald wasthe first Vice -President of the League here. As our blacksmith is about to leave us we would be glad if some interprisiug man would take his place. This is a good place for a gond mechanic. The people of that section may congratulate them- selves on having secured so good a teacher. She was presented with a beautiful album and address by the Scholars when leaving. Master Willie Hayden, of Goderich, is spending his vacation with his grand- parents here. There are quite a number of people in this vicinity sick at present with colds and la grippe. The implement houses of George Burrows, Jr., was burned to the ground one night last week. Mr. Burrows had most of his machinery in it. This makes two mysterious fires here in a short time. 'Who are the "fire hugs". Mr. Stephen and Miss Nellie Tout, o f Kincardine, called on friends here on Sunday. Mrs. McBride, of Merrill, Mich., Mrs. Peterson, of Detroit, and Mrs. Fenna- baker, of Clinton, were called here on Friday on account of the death of their father. lois. John A. Kinson, who worked for Mr. Sinclair near here two years ago and who was lately a student at the Agricultural College, Guelph, is now, through over study, completely blind. He has consulted Toronto specialists with no benefit. DEATH OF Mits. DROVER. -There died on the 20th of Dec. Mrs. John Drover, who resided near Chiselhurst. Deceas- ed, whose maiden name was McLeod, possessed. all the characteristics of a genuine Highland spirit. Her charity and benevolence was unbounded. Yes, indeed, said a neighbor, while speaking of her after her demise, "If Mrs. Drover had but one loaf she would share it with her neighbor." God blessed her with plenty and she was a cheerful giver. She leaves behind a large fami- ly, some who are not able to take care of themselves. The eldest daughter is married to Donald Brintnell, the second daughter is about seventeen and *ill have charge of the younger ones.
