The Christmas Tree. Fntertainmoitt
in connection with the Sunday School
was held in the school ,louse on Friday
evening the 22nd- inst, and in spite of
the bad weather the house was coin-
- Partiality filled. There • was about 100
presents on the tree which looked
sp'endidwhen lighted with wax candles.
'i.here were 85 pupils on the roll which
is a large number for a country Sunday
Sehool. The programme consisted of
dialogues, recitations, readings, sing-
ing and instrumental music, and was
well rendered and highly appreciated
throughout. The Rev. L. W. Diehl
occupied the chair- to the. satisfaction
of all. Mrs. Bingham, teacher of the
girls Bible class, was presented with a
large photograph of her•pupils. '

the plebiscite vote for prohibition itas-
held in the hall on Thursday evening

Xmas passed over quietly in this

Mr. Wm. Stevens was here on Sun-
day.
Mr. and Mrs. D. Roberts, of Ripley,
spent Xmas with A. Woodman.
Nile.
Crowd,d out• last week.
Monday night of last week was the
time of the annual S. S. meeting. It
was fairly well attended and all the
officers and most of the teachers were
re-elected. The Nile S. School is in ao
prosperous condition.
On Wednesday evening a number of
young people of both the male and
female persuasion went to Zion church
to a tea -meeting. Tit yspeak asthough
they enjoyed themselves very well.
On Thursday afternoon a large num-
ber attended the public examination
of the Nile Public School. This school
in a flourshing condition. The
retiring teachers, Mr. Allen and
Miss Richardson, are to be succeeded
by Misses Watson and Whyard. We
wish the new comers success,
On Thursday evening some of the
Nile people attended a Christmas tree
entertainment at Carlow and others
went to Dungannon to hear the
phonographic concert. They all spent
a pleasant time.
Tom Thumb must have been snowed
in last week, but there has ;leen a big
thaw, so we will expect to hear from
him next week.
Last Friday was nomination day at
Carlow. Mr. Malloy was re-elected
Reeve. A contest will be waged be-
tween Messrs. R. Jewel and A. Young
to see who will be deputy -reeve, while
A. A.' Young, N. Johns, H. Morris : n•1
S. Potter will light for the seats of the
council.
Mr. Frank Corey returned from
Manitoba last Monday. I guess the
prairie province agreed with him for
he looks well. -
I guess the Orangemen of this
place think they will have enough to
do on election day without attending
lodge so they have agreed to postpone
the January meeting from Monday
1st, till Monday, 8th, when they hope
for a good attendance.
Mrs. McPhee, sr., and Mrs. R. Mc-
Ilwain were afflicted with la Grippe,
the former seriously. The latter is re-
covering. BRUNo.
Messrs. J. Tamblyn, Andrew Taylor
and Wm. Lamont, returned from
Manitoba last week.
Rev. E. W. Hughes, of Adelaide, was
the guest of Rev. J. A. Hamilton on
Friday night.

Hensall.
The examination in S. S. No. 8, took
place on Thursday- last. The manner
