It is well known that the ladies of g aria -
da often experience trials and tribulations
in the household management. These
small but irritating troubles can be avoid-
ed if a little care and common sense is
exercised. Womenwho go -on sqffering
these little miseries have themselves to
blame, as they suffer through their own
carelessness and inexperience. To -day,
one great resource of annoyance in the
household is the use of poor imitation dyes
for domestic dyeing. In some sections of
our land, the ladies have lifted up their
voioe against them in a way that cannot be
misunderstood. IThese imitation dyes
have caused not only great loss of material
and money, but anger and heartache an

Italians in Boston live precisely as
they do in Italy. A person walking
down a street in the Italian quarter
might well imagine himself in Naples.
Thos. Sweeney, of Hamilton, aged 59,
unmarried, fell down and expired just
after eating his dinner Thursday.
Death was due to the bursting of a
blood vessel in the brain.
Up to and including Thursday night
over 1,000 names have been registered
of those professing conversion at the
Moody meetings in Toronto. This is
taken as visible evidence of the good
work done.

sane, and asked Mr Macfarlane's opin-

HOW A MAN GOES TO SLEEP
--
"Order is heaven's first law," and
the old troth is manifested even in the
process of going to sleep. When a
man drops ott to sleep his body does
not do so all at once, so to speak. Soule
senses become dormant before others,
Itnd always in the sane order. As he
becomes drowsy the eyes close and the
sense of seeing is at rest. It is quickly
followed by the disappearance of the
sense of taste. He next loses the sense
of smell, and then after a shGrt inter-
val 1 he tympanum becomes insensible
to sound, or rather ,the nerves which
run to the brain from it fail to arouse
any sense of hearing.
The last sense to leave is that of
touch, and in some hyper -sensitive
people it is hardly ever dormant. Even
in their case, however, there is no dis-
criminating power or sense of what
touched them. This sense is also the
first to return upon awakening. Then
hearing follows suit, after that taste,
and then the eye becomes able to flash
impressiong,to the brain. The sense of
smell, oddly enough, though it is by
no means the first to go, is the last to
come back. '
The same gradual loss of power is
observed in the muscles and sinews as
well as in the senses Slumber begins
at the feet and sl Wly spreads up the
limbs and trenk until it reaches the
brain, when u consciousness is corn-
lete and the «hole body is at rest.
"'his is why s eep is impossible when
the feet are d4.

Mrs Cloutier's health had been good, but at
that time sbe was attaoked by, that dread
scourge, la grippe. • Every fall since, not-
withstanding all her care to avoid it, she
has been afflicted withlinflammation of the
lungs, which would bring her to the very
verge of death. This was followed by•
bronchia for the rest of the year. Her
bronchial tubes were effected to such an
extent that it was with difficulty she could
breathe, and a draught of outside air would
make her oough in the most distressing
manner. "There was," said Mrs Cloutier
to the reporter, "a constant rattling sound
in*roy throat, and in the state I was in
death would have been a relief. I could
not attend to nay affairs nor to my house,
and had it not been for my niece, on whom
I relied, I cannot say what would have be-
come of me. It was in vain that I tried
the numerous remedies given me by various
doctors, and when I think of all the money
they cost me I cannot but regret I have
ever tried Clem. 1 had read frequently of
the cures effected by Or. Williams' Pink
Pills, and I felt that they must contain the
truth, for if they were unfounded none
would dare to give the names. and address-
es of tlaA' persons said to be cured in the
public manner in which these are given in
the newspapers. I decided to try Pink
Pills, and none but those who were ac-
quainted with my 'forme; condition can
• understand the good I have derived from
their tose,'Whiehsslcohtinued instil I felt
that I was completely cured. As a proof
that I am cured I may tell yon that on the
first occasion ofeoby going out after
my recovery I walked for about two
miles on an up hill road without feeling the
least fatigue or the least pant for breath.
and since that time I have enjoyed the best
of health. Last fall- I was afraid that the
inflammation of the lungs to which I had
been subject at that period of former years
might return, but I had not the least symp-
tom of it, and never felt bet`er in my life.
You can imagine the gratitude I feel for
Dr. Williams' Pink Pills, and I recommend
them to all who will heed nay advice, and
I do not think it possible for me to say too
much in favor of this wonder remedy, the
USO of which in other cases as well as mine
has proved invaluable.
A depraved or watery Condition of the
