Thousands have been Given a New Lease of Life.. Test its virtues weary self erer. "Go with thy pains to the fountain, Go with thy load of disease; Use nature's carer and healer, Thou shalt have health, strength and ease:" Every ailing, sick and diseased man, "woman and child most go to the same fountain for care. Theme is no fashionable or royal road for the elite and wealthy of society; the noble of birth, the titled and affluent must lay hold of the same means for banishing disease and suffering that is so eagerly sought after by those in Numb - ler positions and oiroamstances. As the sun shines on rich and poor, the righteous and unrighteous, blessing all alike; so does Paine's Celery Compound give life, health, strength and a fresh lease of life to people of every grade and class who are victims of nervousness, rheuma- tism, neuralgia, dyspepsia, indigestion and liver and kidney troubles. All troubles roll away when nature's great medicine is used. In the past tens of thousands have used the waters of that unfailing fountain of virtues, and have been made whole. Thousands are testing it to -day, and miraculous results are the fruits. If you are suffering, dear reader, delay no longer; test _ the great healer that has won so many victories, it will meet your wants and needs. For your encour- agement the following letter from Mrs a'. Id. Huff, of Salmon Point, Ont., is given as a proof of what results you may reap, if you ue Paine's Celery Compound. "After receiving so much benefit from Paine's Celery Compound, I think it my duty to inform sufferers what this great medicine can do for all who wish to regain health and strength. I have been a great sufferer for years from nervousness and weakness, and have had the advice and at- tendance of doctors with but little benefit. I was induced to use your Paine's Celery Compound, some time ago, and 1 must confess it was the best medicine I have ever used. Nothing else has ever done me so much good, and I now feel quite a dif- ferent person. "I trust sufferers will not be influenced to use any other medicine while they can procure yours which does such good work. I cannot speak strongly enough in favor of -ssasa.,Paine'e Cpleky,; Compound, :.and you, may '"bo assfired I will always recommend rt. You are at liberty to publish this letter in your work." LOOK OUT FOR COLD WEATHER but ride inside of the Electric Lighted and Steam Heated Vestibule Apartment trains of the Chicago Milwaukee & St Paul Rail- way, and you will be as warm, comfortable and cheerful as in your own library or boudoir. To travel between Chicago, St. Paul and Minneapolis, or between Chicago, Omaha and Sioux City, in these luxuriously appointe:l trains, is a supreme satisfaction; and, as the somewhat ancient advertise• went used to read, "for further particulars, see small Lille." NOT AN EVEN THING. In one of my parishes (writes ' a friend of the drawer), some years since, I had a vestryman, an excellent man ap''?a warm friend. He has now de-. " Parted this life, and so this story may be told as an illustration of his official devotion to the interests of his consti- tuency. In my neighborhood lived a clerical brother, a splendid preacher, arid very popular with all who knew him, with whom I often exchanged pulpits. His salary was $1,500 and a rectory, while mine was $2,000 with a similiar provision for my shelter. _fate very hot summer not being in ^mood health, and knowing that my people admired him very much, I ex- changed quite frequently with him, so as to save preparing sermons. One day I went into the large store of my vestryman to have a chant with him, which he opened as follows: "You have lately exchanged a good deal with Mr. ." "Yes, sir," I replied. "He is a fine preacher. and every one in the parish admires him." "I know that," said he. "I like him very much. But what is hie !salary?" "Fifteen hundred dollars and a rec- tory." "But what are we paying you?" I told him. • "Well," he put in, "have you consid- ered how much this parishes loses by these exchanges?" I told him I hail not made that cal- culation, _Ohne dollars and sixty cents is the oss per Sunday," was the statement of this careful guardian of the finan- cial interests of his parish.—From the "Editor's Drawer," in Harper's Maga- zine for November. FARMER STEBBINS AT FOOTBALL, While welkin' up the village street, a• fightin' there I see Some twenty fellers, more or less, as fierce as fierce could bel 'Twas in a medder nigh to where the col- lege late was built, An' not a proper plane for blood to be un- duly spilt; So, very peaceable inclined, an' al'ays actin' thus,, I thought, "I'll try what may be done to regulate the fuss." My goodness, how them fellers fill they'd punch each other there Like hungry cattle when the frost is nib- blin' through the airs An' one would pick up eomethin' quiok, an' run off, fit to kill. • With eeveral others ohasin' mum, as chick- ens sometimes will; Then if he on his stomach fell, there right in his distress They'd pounce upon him, hard an' square, a dozen, more or less. An' when my eyes untangled 'em an' glanc- ed 'em through an' o'er, To my surprise I found I'd seen of 'em before! Young Caleb Stubbs, who once was raised across the road from me, But I had never thought, before, would bort an ailin' flea; An' Joseph Minks, who's al'ays fit when - e'er he had a chance, Was now as gay an' much Frenchmen at a dance. An' Thomas Tufts, who's he himself oan teaoh; An' Samuel Strapp, who's have a pall to preach; An' Peter Pills, who'll some day ogre the world, no doubt, Was etrivin' hard, apparently, to kill and wipe 'em out; An' several others all appeared to do what death they could, From whom I'd al'ays looked for things a thouean' times as good. An what still deeper troubled me, a lot o' folks near by Didn't seem to Dare to hold 'em back, an' wouldn't even try, Bat sort o• toiled to help it on, an' make a fightin' din; An' even girls would grit their teeth an' holler, "Boys, go ins', An' then I says, "Them fellers all appear in Death's employ; If there's an undertaker here, he's sheddin' tears of joy." full half to home as bein' taught so trainin' so's to strive to An' terrified at what they'd done, an' what they meant to do, I struggled hard to recollect a Riot Act or two; But naught appeared that I could reach on Memory's cluttered shelf, An' so I had, az one might say, to make one up myself. I wildly rushed into their midst, an' yelled with all my might, "See here, now, boys, this school wasn't built to teach you bow to fight!" But still they all kept on their way, as fierce as fierce could be, An' none of them was blessed with sense to listen onto me; But while I still upheld the right, in words I won't repeat, Th' apparent cause of all their fuss rolled plump betwixt my feet! An' then such baffetin' amidst the angry waves of strife I never yet had come across in all my earthly life! I've sported in a skatin'-rink, an' helped to dust -the floor; I've served as drift -wood in the waves of Jersey's stormy shore; I've clutched a tall toboggan -slide, the while my cheek did blanch, Then, lettin' ga., reluctantly become an avalanche; I've entered oars on Brooklyn Bridge 'twixt five an' six o'olock; But these was only zephyr breaths beside an earthquake shock! They jumbled me, they tumbled me, some several fellers deep, Until I give up every sense an' feebly fell asleep: An' when I woke, and midly asked if all my bones was there, No one contigious seemed to know, or spec- ially to care; But eeveral fellers, with their face all black an' blue an' red, Jumped up an' down, a-wavin' han's, an' shoutin', "We're ahead!" "Naw who's ahead?" says I, when I a list- enin' ear could find; "Whoever 'tis, here's one old fool that's several rode behind! Why are you studyin' carnage here—what is this all about? An' then they hollered, "Football, Dad— we've gone an' cleaned 'em cut!" Whereat I same, "If this is what you call a friendly game, Heaven shield me from your courtesies, an' help me dodge the same!" Then everybody laughed an' joked, rejoioin' in the crimes, An' said, "Old man, the trtf ble ie, you're 'way behind the times!" An' then I said: "All right! I'll keep be- hind 'em, if you please; An' when I'm anxious suddenly from this world to escape, I'll go an' dance on dynamite, an' do it up in shape!" —Harper's Magazine. WiLsorr, Contractor and Builder, Sulphur Springs, Texas, thus speaks of Ayer's Pills: "Ayer's Pills are the best medicine I ever tried; and, in my judgment, no better general remedy could be devised. I have used them in my family and recommended them to my friends and employes for more than twenty years. To my certain knowledge, many cases of the following complaints have been completely and Permanently Cured by the use of Ayer's Pills alone: Third day chills, dumb ague, bilious fever, sick headache, rheumatism, flux, dys- pepsia, constipation, and hard colds. I :,.know that a_moderate-use-of-Ayer's Pilo, continued for a few days or weeks, as the nature of the complaint required, would be found an absolute cure for the disorders I have named above." ,1 I have been -selling medicine for eight years, and I can safely say that Ayer's Pills give better satisfaction than any other Pill I ever sold."—J.
