Ont, From Early Morn till late at Night Work, Worry and Bustle Results: Iiervousuoss! Sleepless- ness! Rohde! Dyspepsia and Run-down Conslitutiol! Paine's Celery Compound the wife and Mother's Salvation. It gives Health and Strength and a New Lease of Life. The home slaves of our country—the thousands of wives and mothers who toil from early morn till late at night—deserve comfort, cheering and encouragement. The daily toil, worry and bustle in the management of home and' children is so severe on the vast majority of mothers, that they become permanently aged and broken down in body. Thousands are nervous, dyspeptic, despondent and melan- cholic. Unless some effort, some means of rescue, be devised for saving these devo- tees and slaves of home life, the dark grave will greedily engulf many weary and worn- out mothers, leaving mourning husbands and helpless children behind. 'Tis a fear- ful picture, but nevertheless true as hea- ven's sun shines on earth. It is well to know the truth. It is our duty to utter warnings in tones that cannot be misun- derstood. Our weary, nervous, faint, weak and broken-down wives and mothers must follow the example of a multitude of their sisters who have renewed and changed their lives, by the use of Paine's Celery Compound, nature's true and infallible in- vigorator and strengthener. Oh! ye overworked, burdened mothers, your duty is clear. Your husband and dear ones need your presence in the home for years to come. Lay hold of that great health builder, Paine's Celery Compound, at once; it will give you new life, vigor, strength and lengthened years. Husbands you have a ditty to perform; a true devo- tion to wife and ahidren will compel' its performance. See that your devoted wives are supplied with the medicine that is so well adapted for their condition. Nothing but Pitiria's Celery Compound can bring' back the glow of health to the fading and pallid c.ieeke; nothing else can make your weak and despondent wives bright, ener- getic and happy. Saved and cured woman in all parte of Canada have sent in telling testimony re- garding the life giving effects of Paine's Celery Compound; the following from Mrs Joseph Lloyd, Gananoque, Ont., will be iinteresting to all women: "I feel it my dnty to tell you what Paine's Celery Compound has done for me. I was always a sufferer from nervous debility and very bad headache, and found it impossible to obtain regular sleep and rest. Two yearsrergo I read of your Paine's Celery Compound, and bought a bottle of it. After 1 had used it I found I could get quiet and rest. I have used altogether seven bottles and find myself completely cured. Your medicine purifies the blood and regulates the system; and I would not be without it in the house if it took my last dollar. Before using Paine's Celery Compound my weight was only 100 lbs; now I weigh 144 Ibe. Is this not sufficient reason for me to praise the Compound highly? Before I knew of your wonderful medi- cine I was treated by the doctors, but never received any good. Five of my friends are now using your valuble medicine since they have seen what it has done for me. I wish you to use my statement as it may be of encouragement to others. Lord Tweedmouth, brother of Lord Aberdeen, is to be banqueted in Glas- gow in recognition of his distinguished services to Liberalism in Scotland. The monument which was erected by the Queen to the memory of the late Prince Imperial on the spot where he met with his tragic death has been stolen. The monument took the farm of a cross. Suit has been entered in the name of the Government against Mr St. Louis, of Curran bridge notoriety, to recover $143,881 obtained "by fraud and deceit of the defendant and his agent." As a considerable part of this went in con- tributions to election funds, there will not likely be any great effort made to trace where it went. But what will puzzle the general reader is, if St. Louis got that money by fraud, why is he not in jail? HARD CASE, AWestern doctor.who has had much experience with fever and ague cases, says that the best description he ever heard of that malady was given by a waggish patient of his own. One morning the doctor was sum- moned to this gentleman, and found him in a shivering chill. The doctor inquired how the patient felt. "N -no -t -t a b -bit bet-tter," chattered the victim of the chill. "I am sorry, but your case is a pecu- liar one, and very hard to get hold of," said the physician sympathetically. "Ye -yes," shivered the sufferer, "th- that's so; th-th-e case sh-chakes so yo - you can't g -get hold of it-t-tah I" HERE, THERE AND .EVERY. WHERE, Three raspberry canes in theardens of the London Horticultural Sot:iety were grown from seeds found in the rlttmituh of a roan whose skeleton was dug up from one of the old burial mounds of North Britain. Miss Lamson, daughter of a judge_ of the Court of Commod Pleas, and Miss Judson, a member of a wealthy fami- ly, both of Cleveland, Ohio, recently loined the Salvation Army, and are iving in the army barracks in that city. Andy Palmer, of Maine, has built his new home on the dividing; line of York and Cumberland gounties so ex- actly that when he is at one end, of his diningtable in "Pork ne is helped to soup landy his fair vis-a-vis in Cumber- . The lines of no human hands are ex. actlylalike. When a traveler to China desires a passport the palm of his hand is covered with fine oil paint, and an impression is taken on thin, damp paper, officially signed in his passport. The most wonderful cliff dwellings in the United States are those of the Mancos, in a Southern Colorado can- on. Some of these caves are 500 to 600 feet from the bottom of the per- pendicular sides of the canon wall, and how their occupants gained ingress is a mystery. A correspondent of the Newcastle Chronicle has unearthed an interest- ing contemporary criticism of Burns. It is by William Pitt, and is to this ef- fect:—"I can think of no verse, since Shakespear's, that has so much the appearance of corning sweetly from nature as that of Burns," Probably the meanest thief ever caught is Louis Bourgard, of Paris, who recently, while riding in a cab, ripped open the cushion, tied the horsehair into a parcel, sold it while the cab waited for him, and with the money procured from selling his "plunder" paid the cabman his fare. A "tell tale" milk jug has just been devised in England. It is a glass mea- sure, graduated at every quarter pint. Below the pint and half pint marks three lines are etched showing the thickness of cream which should ap- pear in milk of average quality, in good and in very good milk, thus measuring both quantity and quality. There are enormous profits on type- writing machines. It costs about $15 to manufacture most machines that sell for $100. Navy that all the essen- tial patents have expired on the stan- dard machines, and anyone can manu- facture a writing machine, there is a fortune for the man who will put on the market a good typewriter to be sold at $50. To repress drunkenness the Governor of St. Petersburg has just ordered that the names and addresses of all persons found intoxicated in the streets, re- gardless of rank or sex, shall be posted in certain public places in the city, and also printed in the Official Gazette. Fifty years ago they were compelled to sweep the streets for a number of hours, under the eye of the police. Two adventurous acronants, M. Mallet and M. de Fonvielle, have undertaken to make a sky trip around France, keeping their balloon as near the earth as possible, so as to be able to be able to descend with ease occasion- ally. They want toprove that agree- able and econornical journeys can be made by balloon as well as by rail or or water. WHEAT WILL REMAIN CHEAP. So many farmers have become dis- gusted with the low price of wheat, and have taken to raising other crops, so many other farmers have fed their wheat to cattle and swine instead of hauling it to market, that one would. expect scarcity and consequent dear= ness of wheat. But it sells for only 55 cents per bushel in England, and down among the thirties and forties in vari- ous parts of America. Nor is the out- look re -assuring for improvement in price. France usually has to buy 40,- 010,000 bushels of wheat for her own use, and ofttn much more; but so abun- dant is her own wheat crop this year that she will not require to ,import, it is said, more than 16,000,000 bushels at the most. India has not been favored with redundant crops, but the London MarkLaneExpr•ess says: "If we group India, Russia,Persia, lurkeyand Egypt together, we shall find that the total exports (of wheat) are quite as large as ever." The Argentine Republic, how- ever, has not been standing still, and is now the most formidable rival of the United States in the world's grain markets. Argentina exported 40,000,- 000 bushels more of her last wheat crop than she exported in previous years, and her new crop (to be harvest ed in December and January next) promises to be very large. It is always the one that does the best work with the least fuel; that is, the best baker and most easily managed— appropriately enough it is;called the Happy Thought There is no other "just the same" or "just as good," and the genuine "HAPPY THOUGHT" is sold only by "We remember," writes Dr. Baker, in Cincinnati Medical Journal, hearing a man thank Heaven that everything had been done to save his wife; 'for, said he, 'the doctor bled her forty times, and then gave her sixteen grains of calomel.'" Another lady, a nervous one, did not improve under Dr. Baker's treatment, so another physician was called in, who, as a preliminary, used a clinical thermometer. The next day she was much better, which she said was due to the little thing he bad put in her mouth, and which "went through me with a thrill to my toes." A doctor of his acquaintance made a practice of gathering up all the medi- cine not used by his patients, and pour- ing it into one bottle. When asked what he did with this, he replied, "Well, I will tell you. I pour them together, and when I have a case that I do not fairly understand, I give the patient medicine from the 'shotgun' bottle." "We once had an old gentleman for a patron, who appreciated a cough syrup and a liniment we prepared, and he kept himself well suplied with each. On one occasion by mistake he used the cough syrup as a liniment, and the next day rode into town to let me know that I had made some mis- take in putting up the liniment. Said he: "I used it for a severe pleurisy pain, and it helped me very soon, but it was not like the other liniment. It was so dashed sticky." "In another case we left with the patient several powders put up in pa- per with directions to take one pow– der every third hour. Upon the next visit the patient requested me to use less gaped as 'the paper was harder to get down thanbthe powder.
