MR. CHURCH:SAYS:- I'1T SNATCHED
ME AFROM in GRAVE,"
The Cured Mans Hon-
est Testimony
He urges all Sufferers to use
the medicine that gave him
New Life.
An important arrest in life's journey! A
man saved who had travelled far on the
road that leads to the silent, dark grave!
His trials and sufferings were heavy and
severe; he had made many efforts to rid
himself of the shackles and chains that
bound him, but for long months his efforts
' were futile.
While on the great highway of disease
and suffering Mr J. A. Church, of Cold -
well, N.S., heard the glad news of victor-
ies won over disease by Paine's Celery
Compound; his heart bounded with joy and
fresh hope, and he lost no time in testing
the virtues of nature's great healer.
The first bottle produced a mighty
ohange, and warranted Mr Church in con -
tinning with the medicine. After using
nine bottles of the great Compound a
thorough cure was affected, and a new
lease in life obtained.
Before hearing of Paine's Celery Com-
pound Mr Church was literally robbed of
his money as he bought medicines of all
kinds that proved useless and worthless.
His experience is of great interest to every
sick and Buffering man and woman in Can.
ada. He writes thus:—
"It is with pleasure that!' give testimony
in favor of your Paine's Celery Compound,
In the spring of 1892, I had an attack of
La Grippewhichput me into a condition
that I could not sleep or eat. I was com-
pletely rnn-down, had extreme nervous
prostration, and lay for days in a half
stupified state. ,.
"After, spending all my money for•medi-
cines which did little good, I gave up to
die, when one day a paper on Paine's Cel-
ery Compound was brought to me. I at
once procured the medicine, and derived
great relief from the first bottle. I slept
better, ate better, and digestion improved.
After using nine bottles I felt like a new
man. I can truly say that Paine's Celery
Compound enatohed me from the grave,
and gave me a new lease of life.
I earnestly nrge all sufferers to use Paine's
Celery Componnd, feeling sure it will cure
them. Do not emend your money for med-
icines that cannot cure you."

Go count the triumphs of mankind
And crown its marble brow,
Yon wonder what thio world will be
A thousand years, from nowt
Tribes, nations, kingdoms disappear,
Nor leave a traoe behind;
The dust of monarchs long forgot
le soattered by the wind;
Where is the prophet who can say
Upon what regal brow
The English diadem will rest
A thousand years from now?
Will Venice sit upon the sea
In splendor as to -day?
Will haughty Paris rule the world
Ofdashion, proudly gay?
Say, will the mosque of Omar rise
Above the orient deep?
Will London be a mighty mart
And dot a ruin deep?
What capitals will crown the plains?
What empires new will rise?
What people, now in darkness held,
Will flourish 'neath the. skies?
Ah, will the banner of the stars
Crown freedom's radiant brow
And float above her capital
A thousand years frbm now?
Will all the nations be at peace,
If nations then exist?
Will not a crimson battle plume
Be by the sunshine kiss'd?
And will the blowing firmament
Know not a baneful star,
And not a fragile flower bleed
Beneath the feet of war?
Who knows? We cannot look beyond
The bound'ries where we stand;
He holds the many nations in
The hollow of His hand.
He drives the chariot of Time
Across the flying clod!
The past is dead; to -day is ours;
The future is with God.

ELMHURST SHORTHORNS.
The Canadian Live Stock and Farm
Journal for October says:—"While in
the vicinity of Clinton we had the plea-
sure of inspecting the Shorthorns of
Mr W. J. Biggins, whose herd has
played so important a part in the his-
tory of the best show cattle of the
breed in Canada. For it was this herd
that preserved for Ontario breeders
the Sittyton Matchless family, that
has not only furnished some of the
best breeding bulls, but certainly some
of the best prize-winning females that
have ever been bred in Canada.
Whenever the names of such bulls
as Challenge and Lord Lovell are men-
tioned in a pedigree, itis a pretty sure
indication that there will be found
some good cattle to back up their
names. And many who are compet-
ent to speak on the subject claim that
they prove equal to Brampton Hero,
their sire. The dam of both of these
was Matchless of Elmhurst 2nd, bred
in the Elmhurst herd. Matchless bulls
and females have certainly done their
full share in keeping up the reputation
of Canadian Shorthorns.
It is, therefore, not strange that Mr
Biggins shculd think highly of the
family, and that we find the majority
of the present herd comprising cattle
bearing their name.
Another right good old Sittyton sort
is represented by Village Violet, by
Excelsior (i,pp.) and, by the way, this
cow has a mostpromisingheifer calf
at foot by General Booth (imp ). The
dam of Village Violet was sired by Sir
Arthur Ingram, that won so many
honors for the Bow Park herd. In
this branch of the family the other top
crosses contain the names of the pure
Booth bull, Sir Richard Booth, and
Grand Monarque, the latter out of
Village Girl (imp.)
Yet another choicely -bred cow is
Rival Rose, dam Red Rose (imp), which
belongs to one of the Booth families,
which Messrs William and Edward
Cruickshank were breeding at Lethen-
ty, and on which they afterwards
placed bulls of Sittyton breeding
Then there are several Isabellas of
Kinnellar extraction, topped out with
the names of some of the best show
bulls known in Janadian show annals.
Mr Biggins still has General Booth at
the head of the herd. This bull was at
one time in use at Kinnellar, where he
sired that grand cow, Maid of Promise,
that won three champion cups at the
Highland Society's show.

The little book minutely describes the
work and success of one who was earnest-

will interest old and young.

"Thirty-five years ago this Spring, I was
run down by hard work and a succession of
colds, which made me so feeble that it was

doctors, but kept sinking lower until I had
given up all hope of ever being better.
Happening to be in a store, one day, where
medicines were sold, the proprietor notircot
my weak and sickly appearance, and, after
a few questions as to my health, meow -
mended me to try Ayer's Pills. I had littio
faith in these or any other medicine, but
concluded, at last, to take his advice and try
a box. Before I had used then; all, I wa3

one's Ps and Qs was equivalent to a
