Telephone 49 MONTREAL LIVE STOCK MARKETS Montreal, Oct. 8.—The situation at present is absolutely void of a siugle encouraging feature. There is very little doing in cattle. There are still 'a good many coming from the Northwest. Thore were about 500 head of butchers' cattle [30 calves, and 1,200 sheep and Iambs offered at the East End Abattoir to -day The butchers were present in considerable numbers, but trade in cattle was very dull, excepting for the best animals, which were in active demand at about 310 per lb; pretty good animals sold at from 3o to 311c: but much the greater number of cattle sold at from tic to 3c per lb, with the leaner beasts at from 2c to tic per lb. Calves sell at about former rates, common veals selling at from $3 to f5 each and good ones at from $G Ica 10 each. Shippers are paying about 37ro pper ib for good large sheep which is considerably lower than is being pard for shipping sheep in Toronto. The other sheep sell at from 2c to 3.10 per lb, and lambs at from 2ic to 310 per 1b. Fat hogs are in moderate supply and bring higher prices, or from 5ic to 5,c per Ib.
