Telephone 49 MONTREAL LIVE STOCK MARKETS Montreal, Sept. 24—There has been no im- provement in the situation of the live stook markets abroad since our last, in fact cable ad' vices to -day from all quarters were the worst -on record, and reported trade as ruinous. There were about 450 head of butchers' cattle, 50 *salves and 350' sheep and lambs offered at the east end abattoir to -day. The market present- ed somewhat of a holiday appearance, owing to the absence of the usual quota:of butchers, and the few butchers who put in an appearance seemed anxious to buy only good stock, t of which thero was a decided scarcity. Common and inferiors were very dull of sale, and prices show no improvement, ranging from 1$c per lb up to 31c. There was a better demand for calves, and 820 was paid for two of the best and $15 for three others. Common calves sold at from $3 to $5 each. Shippers are paying about 31c per lb for good large sheep, and the others bring from 2c to 3c per lb. Common lambs sell at from 27fc to 3c per lb, and the culls at from $1.50 to $2 each. Fat hogs aro plentiful ,and steady at 51c to No per lb. The Methodist church buildings in Can- ada are valued at 314,000,000.
