THEE CL 'ATTON NEW ' ERA,
DESERTED AT THE ALTAR.
A romance in which Ri:bert Beale's
wife, Lillie, is reported to have receiv-
ed $10,0, ) to re.inguish her rnarriage
certificate and give up all claims upon
hint as her husband, has just reached
a most, interesting climax at Cain
Chester county, Pa„ says the Phila-
delphia Record. If the report proves
i to be correct Beale will douotless cease
to be a wanderer in the west and re-
turn to the life of luxury and ease
which he formerly enjoyed as a mem-
ber of one of Chester county's wealth-
iest families. Robert Beale, who is a
man of E9, developed his fascinating
romance in the summer and autumn of
18112. He and bis equally wealthy
brother resided in the mansion on the
hill, above Cain station, on the Penn
avlvania Railroad. They were the
chief land proprietors of the neighbor-
hood. Near their mansion, down in
the little village that clustered about
the --station, -was the modest little'cot
tao-e of Robert, a section boss on the
railroad. In Walker's humble home
dwelt the prettiest girl in all the neigh-
borhood—Lillie, his dauohter—who
Iwas sent on frequent et•ranns from the
cottage to the mansion. On one of
these running visits to the hill the
charms of the section boss' daughter
attracted Robert Beale.
Subsequently he sought and found
many an occasion to meet his charmer,
and, finally, one day in October, 1892,
the two took the train to Philadelphia,
and when, two days later, they return-
ed, the one to the mansion and the
other to the cottage, Lillie told with
pride that she was Robert's bride, and
showed to her nearest f-•iends the mar-
riage certificate in evidence of the hap-
py union, for to all who heard of it
the match seemed as improbable as
that wedding of poetic fancy in which
Maud Muller ansl the judge were wed.
Beale had no sooner claimed Lillie as
his bride than he sought to relinquish
her. Again and again she called at the
mansion on the hill, but its doors were
closed against her. Mr Robe: t had
given word that she was not to be ad-
mitted, the servants said. Two weeks
after the wedding Beale went to Phila-
delphia, whither he was followed and
traced by a detective whom the girl
bride had employed. Then he went to
Denver, Col„ and has since been a
wanderer in the various cities of the
west. After Robert's mother had died
a few weeks ago Lillie attended the
obsequies, hoping there to find and
claim her husoand. But he was not
there. Since then she has received
and spurned an offer of $5,C:;) to give
up her marriage certificate and re-
nounce her bridal claims. Finally, as
the impossibility of an intimate re-
newal of marriage relations dawned
upon her she was persuaded to give up
her husband, and thus, it is reported,
the settlement for $10,000 came about
and Ronert Beale is expected home
again.
THE WHY AND WHEREFORE.
There is nothing marvelous in the fact
that Hood's Sarsaparilla should cure so
many disorders "flesh is heir to" are due
to impure or poisonous condition of the
blood, and that Hood's Sarsaparilla is an
effective and radical blood purifier, the
whole thing is explained'.
Besides its blood purifying qualities,
Hood's Sarsaparilla also contains the beet
known vegetable stomach tonics,diuretics,
kidney remedies and liver invigoranta and
is tbns an excellent specific for all disorders
of these organs, as well as for low condi-
tion of the system, or That Tired Feeling.
