P}ysicians Use; Prescribe and
Recamreud Paine's Celery
Compound.
° Earth's best 'tering Medicine—Grand Encouragement for
Every Weak and Run-down Man and Woman in Ca-
nada --.How Some of Boston's Most Eminent Physici-
ans Speak of Nature's Restorer—It Cures and Makes
People Well.
More words of preis, have been written
and spoken by well known men and women
in every section of the country within the
past few years for the famous compound
first prescribed by Prof. Phelps, of Dart -
month college, than have beenl bestowed
upon all other remedies put together.
More physicians in high standing are
acing, prescribing and recommending
Paine's celery compound than any other
prepared remedy in the world.
More space is devoted in many a medi-
cal journal to the wonderful cares Paine's
celery compound effects than to any other
one subject.
- Paine's celery compound is pre-eminently
the remedy that makes people well
For the encouragement and benefit of our
enfferingCanadian people,we are permitted
to give the opinions and experience of some
of the most eminent and distinguished of
Boston's medical men, whose names are as
well known in Canada as in the United
States.
W. Allen Hubbard, M. D., 70 West
Cedar street, is one of Boston's best physi-
cians. He says what hundreds of others
physicians have said before, and his ex-
perience adds one more to the hundreds
already published, that Paine's celery com-
pound is undoubtedly the highest produce
of the medical knowledge of this century.
"The formula of Paine's celery com-
pound," he says, "interested me because of
its scientific value, and I prescribed the
remedy in a number of oases where the
flood was impoverished and nerves weak-
ened. The results were so satisfactory
that I do not hesitate to indorse Paine's
celery compound as a most valuable re-
medy."
J, H, Hansford, M. D., whose writings
in journals of national circulation have
endeared him to thousands, has said: "The
formula of Paine's celery compound which
was submitted to me was so satisfactory
that I have used the medicine personally,
and with most benefit. I have prescribed
it with most excellent resultsr"
The well known Boston physician and
surgeon, Dr. A. W. K. Newton, whose por-
trait is given above, states very emphatical-
ly that this compound is the most reliable
tonin and strength giver he has found, for
the peculiar and dangerous condition of the
system that follows the grip. "Paine's
Celery compound, he writes, "is not a pat•
ent, medicine, and it must not be confound-
ed with the ordinary nervines, bitters, and
sarsaparillas. It is as much superior to
them in formulas and results as the dia-
mond is superior to glass. It purifies the
blood, strengthens the nerves, and is na-
ture's food for the brain.
"I had some trouble myself," he writes,
"from blood poisoning, received in a very
delicate surgical operation. The formula
of Paine's celery compound led me to try it,
and I was much pleased with the result. I
prescribe it for men and women who have
no appetite, cannot sleep, and are weak and
run down. For this condition, and for dis-
orders of the blood and nerves, it has no
equal.
"When a man or woman has lost appe-
tite, lost sleep, and feels that life is a bur.
den, that person is in a serious condition.—
I prescribe Paine's celery compound for my
patientswho have these common and dan-
gerous symptoms, with invariably satisfac-
tory results." It is the best possible reme-
dy to keep up one's strength and energy
during the spring and summer months.

Wheat is more likely to drop to fifty
cents than it is to rise again, at heist
t his generation, to one dollar. This is
because of the irnniense areas recently
brought under cultivation and the still
larger areas that will be cultilvated in
the near future. Argentina, a short
time since an importer, now exports
over thirty urillion bushels per annum.
The changein conditions in India has
been somewhat greater, but the period
in bringing it about was a trifle longer.
And the Northwest, fourteen years
ago the home of the buffalo, not only
largely supplies markets of Old Cana-
da, but provides a very considerable
quantity for exports as well. The
changes of the past are, however, as
nothing to those about to take place.
Irrigation works are now being carried
out along the Nlle that will create a
wheat producing territory equal in ex-
tent to one-fourth of Europe. Even
more wonderful results will follow the
opening up of other parts of Africa to
civilization; Argentina and South
America generally have but begun to
show what they can do; and our West-
ern Territories are capable ui piuduct-
ing millions where they now produce
thousands.

HOW THEY RUN.
Michael Flaherty was in court as a
witness, and with each succeeding,
question put to hint his never brilliant
mental powers became more and more
confused. At last he was asked to tell
about the situatio.i of a certain flight
of stairs.
"How do those stairs run?" asked
the examining counsel, whose patience
was well-nigh exhausted by his efforts
to elicit information from Michael.
"Phwat is it ye're askin' me now?"
inquired that bewildered young man.
'•I asked how those stairs run?" re-
plied the counsel, with great distinct-
ness of enunciation.
"Thim stairs!" muttered Michael, evi-
dently in a slough of doubt. Suddenly
his stupid face brightened. "Why,
sorr," he said, with his eyes fixed on
the counsel, whose gaze he felt sure
wouldn't now be approving, "if wan
is at the fut o' thim stairs, they jist
rin oop; but stand at the top av'em,
and they rin down, sorr."

THE AIM OE LIFE.
Man is placed upon earth not to ,
vegetate, not to expiate, no;, to con- a
template; but to progress; to walk in
the path of life accordingto the law of
which God has placed te germ in his
heart; to accomplish his own educa-
tion, and that of others, according to
the providential design; to manifest,
to practise his belief. Thought com-
pletes itself in action; faith in works.
God thinks only in working. With
us, weak beings, this indentification of
thought and action can only be obtain-
ed step by step, through labor, suf-
fering and self-sacrifice. But this is
the aim of our earthly life; and it is
faith which gives us strength to attain
it. It teaches us to do the will of God
on earth, as it is done in heaven.

A few years ago, during the discus-
sion of the clauses of a bill before the
House of Commons, a member moved
to omit all the words in a clause after
the word "which," and this was carried
without anyone having moved an ad-
dition. The result was that one clause
of the hill ended with the word
"which,"and the discovery of its mean-
ing naturally passed the wit of man.

from bead to foot with a red and ex-

she had suffered for two or three years,
in spite of the best medical treatment
available. Her father was in great
distress about the case, and, at my
recommendation, at last began to ad-
minister Ayer's Sarsaparilla, two bot-

delight. I am sure, were he here to -day,
