A MOUNTAIN ON FIRE.
In Johnsen County, Wye., there is what
is nailed the Burning Mountain. It is an
immense coal•bank that has been, on fire
ever sine the first white man visited that
ootintey. There are many traditions
anong the Indians as to the origin of the
fire, but all point to its great antiquity,
and iti°
h
' possible that this
bank bas been
burning for 200 or 300 years. The country
around presents • a singularly barren ap-
pearance, which is not in the least improv-
ed by the looks of the mountain itself. In
places here and there reef° "of oral creep
out, and a high wind fans the fire to a fur-
ious biazo. Elsewhere the fire is mainly
underground and indioated only by the
heat of the enrface and the innumerable
jets of smoke and tongues of flame that ap-
pear' through the crafts in •the baked
earth. It is dangerous to go about the
place, for not only are there frequent oav-
inge of the sYirface, but the gases which arise
from the burning coal are overpowering.

A HISTORY OF TWO PARLIAMENTS'
The present session of the Dominion
Parliament promises to be one of the most,
interesting in the history of our country.
First and foremost will come the battle for
Tariff Reform; -in whioh the issues between
the two parties will be sharply defined.
Both parties will be making records for the
Doming Dominion eleotiens. Then there
will be the Manitoba and Northwest
Schools questions ; the French Treaty ; the
position of Mr McCarthy, and other ques-
tions o2 interest but of minor importance.
The Montreal Daily Herald, which fur-

ablest and most impartial reports of the
session, announces that this year it will
give its weekly readers a full-sized four-
page Parliamentary Supplement, oontain•

be of special interest and will be fully re-
ported in the Herald's weekly supplement.

TO RESIST THE ATTACH
—of the germs of Consumption,
Scrofula, Grip, Malaria, and many
other diseases—means fight or die
for all of ns. These germs are every-
where in the air we breathe. The
odds are in favor of the germs, if
our liver . is inactive and our blood
impure.
What is needed most is an increase
in our germ -fighting strength. To
do this successfully you need to put
on healthy ,Mesh, rouse the liver to
vigorous action, so it will throw off
these germs, and purify the blood so
that there will be no " weak spot,"
nor soil for germ -growth.
We claim for Dr. Pierce's Golden
Medical Discovery, that it does all
this in a way peculiar to itself. It is
the development of generations of
medical thought—it has stood the
test of a quarter of a centll'y of
cures.
That is why the makers can guar-
antee it. In every trouble .caused by
torpid liver or impure blood, if the
" Discovery " fails to benefit or cure,
your money is refunded.
