AT THE HOME -PLATE. NOVEL PLACE SELECTED BY A CiNCI• NNATI PAIR FOR THE CEREMONY WHICH MADE TREM ONE. The Cincinnati Baseball Club has broken nearly every record known in • the national game, and now it is entitl- ed to the palm for novelty. Agenuine marriage was soletnnized at the home - plate before yesterday's game with the Baltimores was called. Western -avenue society has boon agog for over a month over the affair. and great'pteparaiione were made fur the event. The high contracting part- ies were Louie Can Rapp, the assistant ground manager, and Miss Rosa Smith, a well known belle of McLean Ave nue. Thyro were no dress suits or do collete costumes worn by either the contracting pities or the guests, this being at the earnest request of the groom. There was, however, plenty of firing of cannon and flowers galore. rhe Huron News -Record 81.10 a Year -81.25 in Advance Wednesday, Oct IIth 11393. D ilnaliam. Intended for hest week, NOTES. -Mr. D. During his lecture he made the remark that he was not a blow. He said he was proud that he re- sembles Sir John Thompson, but think ehe is rather bettor looking. Mr. Parent is without doubt a truly converted mac. He is not afraid to stand like a man for truth and righteousness sake. Intended for last week. Mse. EDITOR,, -According to promise. I now send you a few notes in regard to niy trip as a delegate to S. S. con- vention at Hohnesville. \ Monday 'morning having arrived at Seafortli the first thing to do was to provide myself with a ticket. Well, as you are aware, Mr. Editor, I ate a High- lander and for fear any one might think 1 am clanish I did not get my tickets at the station, but from Mr. F. G. Neilen. Well, sir, Fred. is not the least proud, always willing to give in- formation as regards travelling. Hav- ing arrived at Holmesville I proceeded to the church. I was met at the door by the Rev. Mr. Fear. After provid- ing the with a billet he then conducted me to Rev. Mr. Walker's seat. Rev. Mr. Howell occupied the chair with Rev. Galloway as secretary, All the clergymen in the district were present. Among the delegates I noticed there were some very tall rnen. This remind- ed me of a remark made by an officer from headquarters when inspecting the Goderich township company of volun- teers twenty years ago, he said, "Offi- cers and Men of the 83rd Batt., I have during the year inspected thousands of men without any trouble, but in this case to properly inspect I would cer- tainly require a ladder. However, I must say, you are one of the finest companies 1 ever saw." The Goderich township boys were always noted for their loyalty and fidelity to their Queen. After opening exercises the Rev, Mi'. Swan gave an address on How far should we, aim to indoctrinate •the children, after that Softie tilne was 'spent on discussion by the delegates. The next speaker was Rev. Mr. Rogers, subjebt: The teachers responsibility, !liii,rA s. The happy couple were remembered in a substantial manner by the club $40 in cash. When the money was handed out the blushing groom was management and the players. The Cincinnati players contributed about S60 and the Baltimore players heard to remark something about tap- ioca, but just what he meant is not known. One of his jealous rivals sent out a large doll, but this was scornfully thrown aside by the bride. Gallant 'Squire Tyrrell acted as um- pire of the matrimonial match, and at the conclusion of the ceremony ho ad• ministered a kiss to the bride that would have watered a horse. This caused Manager Bancroft to run out and present her with a rain check. Than the groom etarted on a kissing ex- pedition and he took a fall out of all who were in reach, He was choked off, or he would have kissed the bull calf. Arlie Latham's red tie frightened the b%st man, and there came very near being a stampede. Tony Mullane stepped up and sympathized with the groom, and when asked for an explana- tion he referred the crowd to the court record. It was a few minutes of 3 o'clock when tho booming of cannon announc- ed the approach of the bridal party. The gates itlereswung open and two pairs of foaming steeds drawing all- night hacks dashed in. The carriages stopped at the second bane. The bri- dal party alighted. The attendants, four in number, marched behind the bride and groom to the home plate, where a sheet had been spread. They formed in a circle, and time was called for the first round. 'Squire Tyrrell, with a white tie, and the law in his hands, was ready to re- ceive them. Then, without the aid of a mask, he pronounced the words which made Louie Can Rapp and Rosa Smith one. It was intended to have the Nor wood long-distance cornet band on hand, but the groom was fearful the music might fatigue the bride—and every one else. After the ceremony came the usual custom of throwing rice, and some who did not have a supply of rice on hand threw money. The groom saw the fusillade of coin coming and for a feiv minutes he forgot bride, home and mother. The way he went for the dough was a caution. It kept him busy watching his best men, who, from appearances, vrel•e also out for the etutf. As near as could be ascertained ho• got 69 cents, some buttons and a few of Jim Keenan's bear -checks in tho deluge. After the festivities had ceased and there was no more coin in sight, the bridal party took to the carriagee, and for fear some of the crowd had been overlooked, the groom had the coach- man drive along the bleachers. It was learned that the happy couple will spend the -honeymoon and a small amount of money in Chicago, to which point they have been given tickets. The neighbors of the couple were out in force ; that is, they were outside the grounds. Many carried babies in their arms, and all were willing to give -advise if nothing else to the newly - wedded pail'. Joking aside, however, the affair was truly a novel one. The bride can truthfully be maid to be the hand- somest woman ever married on a ball field. Several snap shote were taken of the bridal party by two photograp- hers who were on hand with their cam• eras: They will be on sale at the Mid • way Pleasance after next week. HIGHLY PRAISED.
