CURRENT TOPICS. It look as though Il r.(iLaurier had thrown Sir Richard Cartwright ovor board. At all events, the knight of de• 6oits cannot bo seen or beard. St. Mary's is blessed with two Grit journals, Surely the "faithful" of the atone town will have their "wants" well looked after, at least as far as the Opposition is concerned. Mayor Davie, \of Mitchell, a hard- shell tory, read an address to Hon. Mr. Laurier on behalf of the town. And he will treat Sir John •the same on October 3rd when he and colleagues arrive. Our town colon. quotes that au• vexation organ, the GoderichiSiynal. There may be nothiug wrong in this. But when it deliberately states that the e litor of this palter "emasculates" Laurier these "respectable" papers place their leader in desperate straits. No, no, dear friends, Tee NEWS RECORD is not "in it." \Vo have not looked up our "Webster," but the Signal will no doubt be quite williug to verify its base insinuations. Farmer's may now look upon Hon. Wilfrid Laurier as one of themselves. Not only did he tell them at New- market that he would stand by them against the "bloated monopolists," but to show that he is sincere in what he said and really intends to become one of themselves the Liberal leader has dovoloped the truly agricultural cbar- actertiatic of going to Toronto during exhibition time and stopping at a friend's house in preference to an hotel. He draws the line this side of Great Britain, but since he set foot iL Ontario he has been fairly running over with love and loyalty fur the Ontario people. A little while ago some Frenchmen and Indians rebelled agafnet. Canada. Laur- i -r then said that if he had been nu the banks of the Saskatchewan he too wuuld have taken un arms to help his fellow countrymen and their savage allies against Canada. That was for the Quebec people. Why don't he ro• pent the rebellious statement while in Ontario ? Tho Godorieh S<'oal challenges THE NEWS RECORD to produce evidence to show that French Laurier ever said he .could shoot our volunteers. Our cotem. is surely very hard driven for aemething to say. Every elector in Canada who h•resd Canadian .doings for a few years knows that Laurier publicly stated that were he on the bunko of the Saskatchewan, at the time of the Riel rebellion, he would have shouldered his musket against our de- fenders. . Laurier's loyalty in Ontario is vastly different to his professions in Quebec. And now the Grit press want proof for what is known to be true. Our exacting Grit cotern. is not sat- isfied with the to ar price of sugar, The Signal is so greatly diesatiefied that it refuses to be comforted unless the Con- servative Government actually places American refined sugar on his table for nothing. The progressive and wise Canadian Administration has wiped out three million a yet r on this one auricle, and still the "brave" annexationist is not satisfied. Our comm. has been given free sugar, cof- fee, tea, cottons, clothing, and dear only knows what. Still the rebell- ious organ cries for more ! American refined sugar ! Bless you poor heart. A dollar or two would make a sugar entrenchment for all Canadian an- nexationiste just now. And another dollar or two would pile up a fortress to permit a sugar grave for the Signal and three or four Laurier§ and a Sir Richard thrown in. But these en nexationists are not satisfied. Well, THE NEWS -RECORD would advise these people to emigrate and take shelter under the wings of the eagle. Then they will find more poverty, starva- tion, hard times, stagnation, and less superior cheap sugar to sweeten their sorrow. People who are diesatiefied so seriously are at liberty to 'migrate. But they won't. They know which Bide their bread is buttered on. The Stratford postmaster has been dismissed. He was a grit, appointed by the Grit Mackenzie Government. We merely mention this fact to show that any government cannot prevent, but can punish wrong -doing. The Mitchell Recorder (Grit) Bays :— "Mr. Wm. Blair, who has been post. master at Stratford ever since Mr. Mao- kenzie's time, was dismissed from the position last week and Mr. S. S. Fuller appointed in his place. It will be re. membered that Young Blair, a son of the dismissed official, was in the clutch.. es of the law a few months ago for robb- ing money letters. YoungBlair skipped the country, and this circumstance is eupposed to have furnished ground for the dismissal,as the father was not soma patent to look after the effalrs of the post.oiffoe himself." II Call BROWNLEE TELLS 1101Y IIE WAS CURED OF SCIATICA AFTER MUGA SUIT 1at1N0—MISS DELIA MAINS SUFFERED 1'r)OM TROUBLE INCIDENT TO GIRLHOOD —ITER CASE CRITICAL—DOW SHE FOUND RELEASE• From :he Kemptville Advance. One of the best known men in the county of Grenville and the adjacent county of Carleton, is \'L•. Ilugh brown• lee, of Kemptville. Mr. Brownlee was born in Carleton county in the year 183.4, and until about five years ago re- sided in the township of North Gower. Having by industry and good business ability acquired a competence he deter- mined to retire from the somewhat la- borious life of a farther, and taking up his abode in a beautiful home. in the village of Kemptville, has since con- tinued to reside here. It id well known to ,lir. Brownlee's friends and acquain- tances tint he has suffered for years from Sciatica of a violent form, and it has lately been uuderst cod that he has at last been relieved from the pangs of this excruciating disease. Recently while is conversation with Mr. Brown- lee, a reporter of the Advance asked him to give his experience for the bene- fit of other sufferers, which he gladly consented to do. " You are aware, " said Mr. Brown • lee, "chats most of my life has been spent upon a farm, and in addition to farth- ing I followed the business of buying cattle, sheep and lambs. In doing so I was exposed to all sorts of weather and over-exertion, which brought on severe attacks of sciatica. I suffered for about ten years, trying all sorts of pow- erful remedies, but without 'doing me a particle of good. During._ this long period of suffering I was deprived of much sleep and many a night I tumbled about in bed nearly all night long suf- fering the moat excruciating pains. In fact I was rapidly approaching the con• dition of a chronic cripple. I had tried so many remedies that I was be- coming discouraged, and almost dia• paired of obtaining relief: While in this con ditiou I was induced to try Dr. William's Pink Pills. I took the pills for some time without any noticeable results, but feeling as if they were a last resort I continued their use. Than name a slight change for the better, and every day added to my steady improve- ment, until now after the use of about eighteen boxes I am nearly as well as ever I wee, being almost entirely free from pain. • I am still using Dr. Will- iam's Pink Pills and feel confident that my cure will be permanent. You may be sure that I am grateful for what Pink Pills'have done for me and I am only too glad to boar testimony to their merit. Indeed I believe they are de- serving of every good thing that can be said of them. " Mr's. Brownlee was present and said that she, too, could vouch for the bene• ficial effects derived from' the use of Pink Pills. She had suffered for nearly four years with terrible soreness and pains in the bade of the head and neck, accompanied by frequent attacks of dizziness which caused great distress and inconvenience. Having observed the beneficial effects of Pink Pills had upon her suffering husband, Mrs. Brownies determined to try them, and from the outset found relief, and after the use of four boxes found that the soreness was alt gone and for the past three months she had been almoat en- tirely free from pain. She has the greatest confidence in Dr. Williams' I'inll Pills and believes thein the great- est medicine of the age. Miss Nellie Wright, of Stratford, is visiting her uncle, Mr. John Wright. Miss Annie McBrien was called by telegram to Inglewood, owing to the ser- ious illness of her sister, Mrs. Edwards, or family. We have not learned the particulars. Mr. Isaac Fisher Sundayed with his brother-in•.law, Mr. C. Beacom. Mr. Noble Lovett is incapacitated for work coused by a blow from the plow handle. We hope the gentleman will soon regain his usual health and vigor. The following from this vicinity are attending the Western Fair : Mr. and Mrs. Henry Murphy, Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim Ball. Miss Myrtle Thompson, of London, who has been visiting her cousin, Miss Jessie Murphy, for some time, returned to her home at London on Monday, 18th inst. Little Myrtle, by her win- ning manner, made many friends here amongst both young and old who will welcome her hack whenever she comes. Mr. Richardson is ill with a slight attack of paralysis. The gentleman is improving slightly. We hope he may be completely restored to health soon. At this juncture Miss Main was induced to try I)r. \Villiama Pink Pills, which are an unfailing specific in cases of this kind. Ilaving lost all confidence in medicine, Miss Main look Pink P lis irregularly at firat, but finding that they wore helping her she began to take them regularly according to directions. From this time out improvement in her case was steamy and rapid, and after the use of a dozen boxes she found her health folly restored, "1 believe," said Miss Main, "that if it had not been for Dr. Williams' Pink Pills I would not be alive to -day, and I strong• ly recownmend• theta to all girls who find themselves in a condition similar to what mine was." Miss Main's mother was present and fully endorsed what her dao ht •' ld' that sho fully or sal , addin BIRTH. Mr. Angus Buchanan, druggist, who is also reeve of the village, was asked if many Pink Pills are sold. His re- ply was that they have a larger sale than any medicine, end still demand steadily increases, which is the best evidence that Pink Pills are a great remedy, and there can be no question of the great good they accomplish. Dr. W.illiame' Pink Pills contain in a condensed form all the elements ne- cessary to give new life and richness to the blood and restore shattered nerves. They are unfailing specific for such dis- eases as an locomotor ataxia, partial paralysis, St. Vitus dance, sciatics, neuralgia, rheubiatism, nervous head- ache, the effects of la grippe, palpita- tion of the heart, restore the glow of health to pale and sallow complexions, and relieve the tired feeling resulting from nervous prostration ; all diseases depending upon viliatad humors in the blood, such as scrofula, chronic ery- sipelas, etc. They are also a specific for troubles peculiar to females, such as suppressions, irrcgularities and all forms of weakness. In the case of men they effect a radical euro in all cases arising, from meatal worry, over—work lir excesses of whatever nature. These pills are manufactured 'by the Dr. Williams' Medicine Company, Brockville, Out., and Schen- ectady, N. Y., and are sold in boxes covered with the firin's wrapper and trade mark, (never in loose form by the dozen or hundred and the public are cautioned against numerous imita- tions Bold in this shape) at 50 cents a box or 6 boxes for $2.50, and may be had of all druggists or direct by mail from Dr. Williams' Medicine Com- pany from either address. The price at which these pills are Bold makes a course of treatment comparatively inexpensive as compared with other remedies or medical treatment. A YOUNG LADY'S EXPERIENCE. Having hoard that Mies Delia Main, a young lady who lives with hor par- ents not far from Mr. Brownlee's re eidence, had also been' greatly bone - fitted by the use of Pink Pills, the re- porter next called upon hor. Mise Main is a handsome young lady, eigh— teen years of age, with the glow of health in her cheeks. In reply to enquiries, Mies Main said that some two years ago she began to be affected with weakness peculiar to many young girls.
