LOOK FOR AN INVITATION.—Keep
our eye on the newspaper and see ria
hich of the merchants want your sp
and are sufficiently courteous to
vite you to call. There is much of
ore in advertising than you may shi
ink. It is not only to tell of lot
s goods that a man advertises, but is and
invite the people who read—the wa
inking, the intelligent—to pay him lbs
visit, and judge for themselvea as to coo
e quality and pride of what he offers Tee

DIFFERENT FIGURES. —"Going out
n her figure" is the most amusing bit
if slang recently coined. Translated,
t is said, it means venturing out doors
vithout any sort of wrap or coat.
A POINTED PARAGRAPH.—When-
ver a newspaper man gets so he can

Some papers, however, have changed
he signs to the Cradle, the Alter, the
tomb. The Sarnia Post has made
nother change and now the headings
spear as the Entry, the Union, the
Exit. It will soon turn to Faith,

raw the eye. Mr. Ritchie is distil -

DEHORNING.—Tifr. W. Weir, the
ited dairyman r had a talk with THE
ENS RECORD the other day on
horning. He related the habits of
ick with their horns on—how they
red each other, &c. Ono instance
is given where the boas cow of a herd
ssed a number that were tied in their
ills. Coming to a particular one
e boss animal turned like a flash and
arly gored her mate to death. • Mr.
eir has 47 cows, 41 milking, and a
t of young stock. He had a second
t of young stock dehorned recently.
ieir ago was about two years. The
Cult from dehorning the first lot has
von entire satisfaction. Previously
e was not safe from the murderous and
ring onslaughts of the other. Now
ey are docile and perfectly harmless.
.Weir is quite satisfied that the safest
d beat way is to have all stock de -
rued. The operation is not very
inful and is accompained with little
no loss of blood.
ItIORE EXPORT SHIPPING. —In spite
the embargo upon Canadian cattle
e shipments from Montreal are going
apace, and, in fact, the figures for
e past week exceet by 2,000 those
the week ending May 13. From
o last mentioned date up to Saturday
lees than 6,605 head of live stock
re cleared from Montreal port to
o United Kingdom, and accepting the
imate of a well-known exporter,
e value of the past week's
pment will bo about $90 per
ad, or amounting to a sum total
$594,450. It is not probable, how-
er,that these figures will keep up for
ny weeks, as there has, for several
sons, been more than the ordinary
ring rushduring the last three weeks.
Monday of this week several curs
very fine export cattle were
sped from Clinton. Among the
were 65 heed fed by James Fair
sold to S. Smith ; the total weight
s 91,750 ibe., an agerage of 1,411
