FISHING FOR TRADE.
Business men in all lines of trade like
to conduct their business so as to bring
;t living return. In fact it is her ind
common reason to attempt, to do any-
thing else.
Customers are numerous, but the
great difficulty, its a rule, is to secure
the class that is required --people who
buy and pay for what they get.
The business man who docs not
advertise must expect to take a second
place. And theadver•tisc'r rniisthe honest
and carry out exactly what he places in
print if he expects to retain old cus-
&niters or secure new ones.
To those who are fishing for trade,
or the business men who desire to re-
tain old customers, we would say that
Tint NEws-REconn is certainly the
medium to talk to the people through.
Legit.irnatte advertising is one of the
great, necessities of the present age.
Retain old customers and secure new
ones by casting your line in the
columns of Tiff: NEWs-1-1?rt'ol1u.

States. I was a Reformer before I
left, but it makes me sick 'to bear theta
talking commercial union. If wo had
commercial union the farmers its Uau•
ada would soon be on the same level as
those of America. How would Cana-
dian farmers like to sell the best wheat
their fund could produce for front 2
to 40 cents per bushel 1 I am going
back to a Canadian farm thoroughly
cured of my idea that Canada is act
the place for a man whu is willing to
work."
Mr. Thomas R. Loughead, who,
with his family, proved from a farm in
the neighborhood of Moaford to South
Dakota five years ago, passed through
Toronto last week en route to Eduiou•
ton, where he hag purchased a farm and
intends remaining for the lest of his
days. Speaking to the Toronto Empire
reporter he said :-" I was induced
some five years ago to leave a fairly
'good form of 160 acres in Ontario,
which 1 sold at a sacrifice, and go and
settle in Dakota. I went because I
believed the reports which had been
made about the farmer's plospccts in
that country. 1 was do'iug very well
in Canada, but wished to improve my
position, like many others who went
west at the same time. I am sorry
that I did not know as much then as I
do now. My experience has just cost
rue a good farm in Canada, worth
probably $6,000, a farm in Dakota for
which 1 paid $4,000 and Made im-
provements worth $2,000, five years of
hard labor and the opportunities 1
have lost. These aro some of the
things I squandered while trying to
carve out a future for myself and
family in the United States. I wish
the American railway laud agent who
some years ago drow a glowing picture
of Dakota to me, and with them in•
ducod me to leave Canada, would go
with me to that Godforsaken region
to day. I would show him
MiLES AND MiLES OF ABANDONED LAND,
farm after farm with first-class build-
ings upon them and improvements
costing in the aggregate hundreds of
thousands of dollars, all left to the the
mortagees, who have ground money
from their victims in such a manner as
would make a man's blood run cold.
Three weeks before I left there wero at
least 200 people within ten miles
about me. The Saturday 1 left there
was not a living soul within
a radius of two miles about
square of my house. The farmers are
flocking out of the country in thous-
ands. Many aro corning to the Can•
adieu North-west, but not nearly as
many as would but for a report which
Yankee agents have spread that there is
a quarantine on settlers' cattle coming
into Canada. I don't know whether this
is true or not. I sold what stock I had
last fall. If it is true, then the Cana•
dian Goverumont is making one of the
greatest mistakes it ever made. Thou
sands of American fanners who own
land along the northwestern border
are anxious to get into our North west.
I can't explain how it is that people,
like catty, are liable to stampede, and
when they start just like the cattle,
they all follow the loader. Now, the
tho great bulk of these farmers have.
regularly stampeded; their leaders have
rushed into the North-west and they
aro ready to follow. They are not like
ordinary immigrant settlors, who ar-
rive hero without a dollar and who, in
many cages, are a burden to the coun-
try; they have stock, implements and
best of all, experience in
HOW TO FARM iN THIS COUNTRY.
Not 10 per cent. of these people will
come to Canada if their stock are quar-
antined. They will go to other states
in the union. Of course there are
some Canakian land agents out there,
but not half enough. It woutd pay
the Canadian Government to spend
$100,000 right know in advertising the
lands of the North-west and lot the

THREW AWAY HIS CRUTCHES
AFTER YEARS OF TERRIBLE
SUFFERING.
AN INTERESTING HISTORY.
STATEMENT OF MR. WM. McNEE.
For tight years I was troubled with
a sore on my log which resulted from
having it broken. The doctors kept me
in bed five months trying to heal it up,
but all to no purpose. I tried all sorts
of salves, liniments, ointments, pills and
blood medicines but with no benefit. In
1883 it became so bacl that I had to sit
on one chair and keep my foot on an-
other for four months. I could not put
my foot on the ground or the blood would
rush out in a stream and my leg swelled
to twice its natural size.
ELEVEN RUNNING SORES
developed on it which reduced me to
a living skeleton (I lost 70 lbs. in four
mouths). Friends advised me to go to
the Hospital; but I would not, for I know
they would take my leg off. The doctor
then wanted to split it open and scrape
the bone, but I was too weak to stand
the operation. One old lady said it had
turned to black erysipelas and could
nosier be cured. I had never heard of
Burdock Blood Bitters then, but I read
of a minister, Rev. Mr. Stout, who had
been cured of a severe abscess on the neck
by B.B.B., after medical aid had failed,
and I thought I would try it. I washed
the leg with the Bitters and took them
according to directions. After using one
bottle I could walk on crutches, after
taking three, I threw away the crutches,
took a scythe and went to work in the
field. At the o;d of the sixth bottle my
leg was entirely healed up ; pieces of louse
bone had worked out of it and the cords
came back to their natural places again..
That was nine years ago and it has
never broken out since. I can walk
five miles to -day as fast as anyone,
and all this I owe to B. B. B., which
certainly saved my leg, if not my life.
I cheerfully recommend it to all sufferers.
Give B. B. B. a trial, it will cure you as
it did me.
Yours truly,
