The coroner's jury In the evidence Adduced can find- but one verdict for the cause of the wreak, and that was disobedience of orders. It is probably one of those unrccount- able instances in which' an instant's lapse of presence of mind has caused great damage. The question is how to regulate and punish such cases, There was no criminal 'intent which consti- tutes the usual crime, and it is ordin- arily difficult to get a conviction for this reason, andyet there was criminal carelessness, resulting in loss of life. THE DEAD LEADER. At the unveiling of Sir John A. Mac- donaid's statute in Hamilton on Wed- nesday, Sir Oliver Mowat paid a kind- ly tribute to the dead leader, whose re- lation to his party he compared to that of Disraeli. Said Sir Oliver: "I like to remember that we (Sir John and I) were cordial friends from that early period for some 28 years, and until I became a somewhat active politician and on the Liberal side. I like to re- member my student life in his office for the first four years of my term, and the kindly feelings of my fellow - students and myself towards our geni- al principal. I rembember him gladly as the Premier and Attorney -General through whom I was appointed a Queen's counsel, and was gazetted without any associate sharing with me the honor. I like to remember the cordial relations which existed be- tween us as members of the Quebec conference at which the confederation scheme was prepared and agreed to by the representatives of all the British American Provinces. I like to remem- ber that when during the sitting of the conference the news came to him of a vacancy in the chancery bench, he instantly passed a note across the table offering me tae place, andas I felt some scruples about accepting in the then position:of public affairs he in friendly conference argued that if I would like the vice-chancellorship there was no sound reason on public grounds against my accepting it.' AND,1 'AIT+EA*-GfVE8 HER EXesiuEliclt Irolp TAR" Pram,I° Goon, (Gloderich Signal.) The marvellous ohange which has taken p'ace in the physical condition of Mrs Cul- loden Fraser, Britannia street, during the past twelve month? bas been the °Met topic of conversation among her many friends and acquaintances of late, and to all who knew of the terible manner in which she had been afflicted, her lifting up appears to have been little short of miraculous. Mrs Fraser has a wide circle of aegnantances in Goderich and vicinity, having resided in this town for over thirty years—ever since her husband who was a merchant in Bay- field, retired from business and located here. Having heard of the wonderful ohange that had been brought about in her physical condition a representative of the Signal palled upon Mrs Fraser at her pleasant home on Britannia street, to congratulate her on the improved state of her health and to find out in which manner the happy ohange had been affected. He was gra°. iously received and the following state. meat was voluntarily given by Mrs Fraser. "It is now over eight years since one morning as I was performiug ablutions, and when passing my bands over my face, I experienced a pain on my cheek similiar to that which is felt when a thorn whioh has penetrated the flesh is 'touched. The pain continued after that and appeared to move all over my face and head. From the cheek it went to the upper lip, then to the lower lip, then to the forehead and head and then to the eyes. So intense was the agony which I suffered that I was un- able to touch my hair or eyebrows, and my eyes felt like veritable balls of fire. My gums were so affected that I was unable to masticate my food, and as a result I suffer- ed greatly from lack of nourishment. My face became so contracted from the effects of the pain that my best friends could hard- ly recognise me, and the only relief I could get was from chloral and the use of opi- ates. Finally my local physician, who had been tireless in his efforts to help me, said he could do nothing further for me; and my case seemed utterly hopeless. I then went to Clinton and consulted one of the most skillful practitioners in that town, who diagnosed my case and said he" could reo- commend no treatment that would bene- fit me. I come home utterly broken down and not knowing what to do. I had read in the newspapers of the marvellous re- sults accompanied by the use of Dr. Wil- liam's Pink Pills, but as I had never plac- ed much confidence in proprietary medi- cines so widely advertised, and had relied more on the methods of skilled practition- ers, I had not given the matter of using them much thought. As a last resort, however, I determined to give Pink Pills a trial, and had two boxes .purchased at the drug store of James Wilson. From the first boxl cannot say that I experienced any noticable benefit, but by the time I was half through with the second box I knew I was mending rapidly, as the terrible pains had ceased, to a great extent, and I began to feel more like my former self. That was last fall and when my friends beard that I was recovering they began to drop in rapidly and congratulate me. As a resu of the excitement consequent upon th fact that sometimes as many as ten or a dozen would come in to see me during the course of a day, I had a relapse—a return of the old pains—but I continued to take Pink Pills, and am pleased to say that I gradnally got back to my normal condition, in which I am to -day. This summer, since August, I have been entirely free from the malady, which has never been the case dur- ing the previous seven summers, but I oc- casionally take the Pink Pills, as the doc- tor advises me that it is well, so as to ward off the disease. I attribute the marked improvement in my health solely to the nee of Dr. Williams' Pink Pills, and have not failed to recommend their use to many of my friends who have made en- quiry as to the benefit derived by me from them." In conversation with Jas. Wilson, drug- gist, it was learned that Dr. Williams' Pink Pills have a very large sale in Goderich, and that many can testify to their great value as a blood builder and nerve tonic. Such remarkable cures as that of Mrs. Fraser have been but too few in the past. Thanks to the better knowledge that the people are obtaining of Dr. Williams' Pink Pills they are now becoming more numer- ous.
