ENGLISH LIVE STOCK MARKETS'
LIVERPOOL, Nov. 6.—Rece ipts of Canadian
and United States cattle have been light,
but prices remain easy, owing to heavy
general supplies. Prices in cents, comput-
ed at 84.80 to the £, are as follows: Finest
steers, 10 to 101; good to choice, 9} to 10;
poor to medium, 8/ to 9; bulls, 6i to 8;
inferiors, 5 to 61.
MONTREAL LIVE STOCK MARKETS•
The cattle markets do not show any
particular change. Shippers are doing
business in a half hearted way, and only
those who have oattle on hand and the few
who think they stand a chance of getting
back some of their money are operating.
There were about 550 head of butchers'
oattle, 75 calves and 700 sheep and lambs
offered at the east end abattoir Monday.
Good oattle were scarce as usual, and
brought higher prices, but common and in-
ferior animals are dull of sale, and bring
very low rates. A few of the best beeves
sold at from 4i to 4Ic per ib; with pretty
good stook at from 3- to 4c per lb; common
dry cows and half fatted steers sold at from
2i to So, and leaner beasts at about 2o per
lb; oalyes were in fair demand at about
last week's prices, good ones selling at from
07 to 012 each and common ones from
$3.50 bo 06 each. Good lambs sell at from
8,} to nearly 4c per lb, and common ones at
from 8 to sic
per 1b; fat hogs are less
plentiful and -are advancing in price, selling
at from btu) ONO per lb.
Joseph Morrow, of Metcalf township,
bad an Indian hired man and a jar of 11-
gnox. The Indian found the liquor, Mr
Morrow says, and got drunk. Someone
informled Magistrate Noble, of Strathroy,
who fined Morrow 850 and poste --083.95
in all. Morrow took two months in jail
rather than pay up.
Though an old man Sir Oliver Mowat is
in unusually good health. He is in excel-
lent condition now to enter upon a vigorous
campaign. Therefore the Liberals in On-
tario have everything to gain by an early
general election, and therefore the rumor
that the House may be dissolved im-
mediately the coming sessi'n of the
Legislature terminates is p obably otic•
rect.—Toronto hews.

and look over our DRESS GOODS RANGE and see there the new Shades
and Colorings, and the very latest ,Weaves and Makes, and then look
elsewhere and note the difference, but the greatest difference will be
found between the prices of this store and others. Then again, let the
same lady inspect the Mantle Stocks in this town, and if she does not
say that we show at this store as many New and Stylish things of t3:s-
latest Cut and Finish as the others combined, it will be a wonder; for it is well known

TO MESSRS JESSOP & McELROY, BLYTH, —
GENTLEIIES,—I feel it a duty to my sex to make public the benefit I have derived
from a course of your treatment, hoping that if any suffering sister sees these lines she
may go and do -likewise. For years tI suffered with dissatisfaction, and got no help,
Sthough I spent much money with those who promised to cure. It was after I had de-
paired of ever getting relief that one of your advertisements met my eye, and hoping
against hope, I resolved to give you a trial. My first visit to you gave me much en-
couragement; you seemed to understand my case, and I left yon better satisfied than
with any other person I have tried. Each visit to you has increased my confidence, as
it has diminished my disease. To -day I am cured of all dissatisfaction, and would say
to all if you want to be perfectly satisfied go to JESSOP & McELROY'S. I shall go to
no one else. I have found with you the best treatment and daily help. Yours faithfully,
EVA. C. LAUGRUSH.

Prendergast,, the murderer of 5,Iayor
Harrison, of Chicago, id to be tried Novem-
ber 27, and the defence will be insanity.
Mayor John Glasgow died in Hamilton,
on Monday. He was born in Scotland in
1821, and lived in Hamilton since 1832,
and was highly respected.
During the first three months of the cur-
rent fiscal year the Dominion's exports de-
creased by half a million dollars while the
imports increased by over a million. At
this rate the balance of trade against Can-
ada at the end of the year will be enor-
mous. Yet the avowed purpose of the pro-
tective policy was to increase exports, shut
out foreign goods and keep the balance of
trade in our favor.
Miss Howard, who was to have become
the bride of Chicago's Mayor, is only one
of a galaxy of fair American ladies who
count their wealth by millions. A few of
the richest are Miss Carrie Aster, of New
York, worth $80,000,1100; Miss Sarah Ste-
wart, of New York, $120,000,000;; Mise
Evelyn Belmont, of New York, $120,000,-
000; Miss Arabella Walter, of Baltimore,
$80,000,000. Any one of these could bay a
title with the encumbrance of a foreign
rake at short notice.
Rev. Isaac J. Lansing, of Chicago, says
Prendergast, the assassin of Mayor Harri-
son, should be torn limb from limb, and
that punishment is too good for him. We
have heard a good deal about the wicked-
ness of the Chicago Times controlled by
Mayor Harrison's sons, but it has wiser
and more measured words than these. Its
advice is to respect the law; if irresponsible
plaoe him where he can do no more harm.
There is a lesson in this advice for others
than the Rev. Isaac Lansing.
A wonderful new combination is R.
Stark's Headache, Neuralgia, and Liver
Powders, nice to take; perfectly harmless.
Mr E. Maynard, of Woodstock, wi tes as
follows: "Thank yon for the Headache,
Neuralgia and Liver powders you sent me,
which I have been very glad of, once for
my daughter, and this morning for Miss M
who said she had suffered from
headache for three days. We gave her one
of those wonderful powders, and in a very
short time she said in an astonished kind
of way, "Why, my headache is quite gone,"
and it did not return again. Mr Horace
Wills, Chief of Police, Woodstock, says;
"I have taken R. Stark's Headache Neur-
algia and Liver Powders; and find them a
sure cure every time." J. Temple, 46
Catharine street north, Hamilton, writes:
"I have used Stark's Headache, Neuralgia
and Liver Powders, and find them a sure
care." Price 25e. a box. Sold by all med-
icine dealers.
