on, wife of .our worthy mayor, has re
rued from a visit to friends in Sea
bad paid the'enalty' for infringing
the by-law lately set in motion by, the
t council. The event marks another era
in the progress of Bayfield. It has
d- been the object of this column for
. many years to lace before the•people
what we consider their truest interests;
and amongst other things, .we, have
always advocated the banishment of
alt unclean animals and fowls from our
streets. It was not that there was no
by-law' in existence, for we find that in
'78, when the late W. W. Connor was
reeve, the original law was passed; but
it .had fallenq into such disuse that
some seemed' to doubt whether there
ever was such a law. However, the
present council. passed a resolution
that has been enforced, with the result
recorded above: It has been a disgrace
and blot on the cleanliness of the vil-
lage, whose citizens pride themselves
on their beautiful and picturesque re-
sort, the envy of more populous but
less popular watering places. Though
it may inconvenience some at first, we
believe the better judgment of the peo-
ple.will declare it good for all parties
that this law be enforced.
