Mr. Boyle visited Burmah, says the Lon.

Zealand, Samoa, the Sandwich Islands, and
America. Of all the facts noted by him as
a sanitarian the moat remarkable are those
relating to leprosy, a diaoaso which he be-
trayers to be epreatliugto an alarming extent
all over the world.
He was particularly struck by the gigan-
tic; proportions the evil has assumed In Bur-
mah. The steps of the great Sbwedagon
pagoda at Rangoon, the Mecxa of the Indo-
Chinese Buddhists, lie found to be "closely
lined from top to bottom with lepers, cut.
Tering ft•oui that loathsome disease in its
worst forrns and most advanced stages."
A number of the setitims examined by Mr.

awful epeotaale." Yet no provision

population.
He has a curious theory to the effect that
tho propagation of leprosy has been to a
large extent connected with cannibalism,
the disease "being ept•ead wholesale through
the eating of infeoted bodies," He has
frequently seen in New Caledonia and the
South Sea Islands human bodies "hanging

repasts, though then in an advanced stage
of decomposition and ezhaling a sickening
odor."

Cannot Catch Gladstone.
Ono hears various stories of the elevernes,
displayed by Mr. Gladstone in eluding in-
convenient questioners, but tho following,
which is'porfectly authentic, strikes a Lon-

of the bunch. The other evening some
earnest young °Radicals wore invited to

him, and to receive some advice for their
