The export oattle trade is now to full swing.
Mr J. E. Story, former foreman of the Ontario
Agrloultnral college, Guelph, is hero with 100
lambs which he will ship by Mongolian Wed-
nesday morning. For the past two years the
authorities of the Guelph college have been
Bonding lambe to England, in order to ascertain
if it wore possible to open a market there in
view of the duty levied by the United States.
In 1891 and 1892 the experiments worn most
successful. Last year's lot brought 47e each in
England, yieldinga profit of nearly 100 per cent.
The present shipment weighed about 8.5 pounds
on an average when bought lost summer. In
October they were shorn and the wool was
sold at the rate of 66c a fleece. They now aver-
age 137i pounds each and oven better results
may bo expected this season than last. About
550 head of butcher's cattle, 450 calves and 150
sheep and lambs wore offered at the East End
abattoir to -day. Tho butchers wore preeent in
largo numbers, and trade was brisk, but there
was a decided drop in the prices of cattle eine()
Thursday's market, while the small stuff sold
much better than on that day, as next Thursday
will be a holiday and the butchers were
anxious to lay in a stook to do them for the
whole week. A fow of the boat beeves were
eoldat 42e and the rough and half -fatted boasts
at about 3 s per lb.
