To the Editor of the Clinton New Era.
Snt,-Muoh has been said and written of
the beautyand attraction of our delightful
town, and we think very justly so, as we
have, without doubt, the prettiest, as well
sit the most favorably situated town to be
found in this fair Canada.. Notwithstand-
ingthis, at 'the present time there are
sigts and odors to be found on our streets
which, to say the least, are not inviting.
If anyone will take the trouble to walk our
streets (we say trouble because it certainly
is not a pleasure) they will disover that
in certain localities private individuals have
taken it upon themselves to use our other.

for refuge. and rubbish of the most obnox-
ious kind. We think, Mr Editor, when we
as law-abiding, industrious oitizens, pay
taxes to have sidewalks laid, streets gravel.
bed, and otherwise beautified, we have at
least the right to walk the same for plea-
sure or profit, without being compelled to
walk through, over or around, the sweepings
of hotel stables, or tearin3 our clothes on
the end of wood piles, or tripping over hotel
steps or butcher carts. And, furthermore,
we, think we can afford to pay for our streets
being properly gravelled, without the as •
sistance of private citizens with their' sea -

gate. One is lead •tb"eonolndei when there
