known cough -cure in the world,
it is recommended by eminent
physicians, and is the favorite
preparation with singers, actors,

taken for consumption, in its early
stages, checks further progress of
the disease, and even in the later
stages, it eases the distressing
cough and promotes refreshing
sleep. It is agreeable to the taste,
needs but small doses, and does
not interfere with digestion or any
of the regular organic functions.
As an emergency medicine, every
household should be provided with
Ayer's Cherry Pectoral.
"Having used Ayer's Cherry Pec-

Stabbed by Hi4 Own Party.
W. R. Meredith has been so cruelly mis-
used by his own party that it would be
little wonder if hp quit the game of provin-
cial politica in disgust. Regarding the
enpremaoy of his party at Ottawa as es.
dential to the welfare of his province, Mr
Meredith subordinated his own career to
the general plan of that great architeot,
Sir John A. Macdonald. The ruined
political career of William Ralph Meredith
is one of the many wrecks upon whioh Sir
John climbed to greatness. The Old Man
never considered Mr Meredith's interests,
and Mr Meredith never considered his own.
He put'the party first, the Province second
and himself last. This was nobly unsel-
fish, but it was not politics. The Province
put itself first. A conspiracy of little men
ripened in the exclusion of W. R. Meredith
from the Cabinet in the promotion of two
ordinary politicians to salaried places, and
in the acknowledgement of John Haggart
as Ontario's foremost Conservative. The
conspicuous inferiority of the Ontario
Ministers diagrams Ontario before the
whole family of Provinces, each one of
which, except , Manitoba, has stronger
representatives. His elevation to the Bench
as Chief Justine might be pleasing to Mr
Meredith. He mast be tired of making
sacrifices of ease, comfort and peace of
mind for the sake of a party that 'really
:admires him, but yet has never thought
enough of its provincial leader to give him
the help of reasonably strong men in the
House. Ontario could hold np its head
among the Provinces if Mr W. R. Meredith
stood first among its Ministers at Ottawa. i
But if that satisfaction be denied the Pro-
vince it could not but applaud the appoint-
ment of a loyal hearted gentleman and able
lawyer as chief justice. -Toronto Telegram

IMPORTANT DISCOVERY.
TORONTO, Feb. 20th,—Among the surpris-
ing strides made by medical science in the
last decade, perhaps none is of more impor-
tance to humanity than the discovery of a
remedy for Bright's Disease of the Kidneys.
That this remedy completely masters this
terrible disease, as well as all the other dis-
eases which thekidneys are subject to,is now
an established fact. Every day brings news
of the most surprising cures resulting from
its use. The case of Mrs Brown of Toron-
to, who, when about to enter the Home
for Incurables, give.. up by the Hospital
authorities as well as by fifteen prominent
medical men, also that of Sam. Murray of
Gravenhurst, who was given np by four
doctors and who was paid his life disability
claims by the Grand Trunk R'y. has at-
tracted wide spread attention. Both were
completely cured by Dodd's Kidney Pills.
