To Preserve
The richness, color, and beauty of the
hair, the greatest care is necessary,
much harm being clone by the use of

having a first-class article, ask your

Vigor. It is absolutely superior to any
other preparation of the keel. li

A Woman and Her Money.
Here is a short story from a French
newspaper of the week : When Madame
Boudin, cook in the service of a doctor
named Fournier, in the ancient town of
Soissons, won a prize of 200,000 francs in
connection with the City of Paris loan in
1883, she thought she was the happiest wo-
man in the world. Subsequent events have
led her to modify this view to some degree.
To begin with, she had a husband who had
deserted her, and who, directly he heard
of the strange turn of fortune's wheel, tried
to avail himself of the deficiencies of French
law, which knows no Married Woman's
Property Act, to obtain the sum for his
own sole and exclusive benefit. Then an-
other claimant turned up in the person of
a former employer of Madame Boudin, a
M. Dogny, The winning certificate, he
said, belonged in reality to him. Ho had
bought one, he said, for her, but it was
another one, and his wife hid handed her
the wrong document. The woman's hus-
band having died, his heirs agreed to accept
one-half the prize, while M. Dogny agreed
to compromise his claim for 30,000 francs.
This left 70,000 francs for Madame*3oudtn,
with interest, for the litigation had gone on
for years. Been now, however, the law
courts have not done with the matter, for
M. Denny has just been arrested on a
charge of making a fraudulent claim, while
a lawyer named Mongin is being prosecuted 1
for embezzling15,000 francs of the share
belonging to theirs of Madame Boudin's
husband.
How the Qae.a Dines la Perth.
The Station hotel at Perth is entangle te
properly dine the Queen and her suite oa
Her Majesty's journeys south. Tho Queen
invariably dines there, and as invariably
causes those who cater for her to be inform-
ed of ber satisfaction with the measures
taken to ensure her comfort. Few, how-
ever, are aware that the splendor of the
table on these occasions is brought quite
up to the 'royal" standard by a most
thoughtful and loyal act of courtesy en the
part of the Marquis of Breadalbane. The
noble owner of Tamworth castle is also the
proud -possessor of one of the most magnifi-
cent services of gold plate extant, and this
be always sends to Perth Station hotel
when the Queen breaks her journey there.
The circumstance has an added sentimental
interest from the fact that this very ser-
vice was used at Taymouth when Her
Majesty was the guest tl i'e •00 the occa-
sion of her first visit to Scotland in 11.12,
when her companion was the Prince (.'aa -
sort.
Tricycles Too Expenaiv,--
The present cost of bicycles is far too
great. The demand for them is becoming
almost universal, and from both sexes too.
For many years after the first introduotion,
mowing machines were Bold at $110 each,
or thereabout. Now one can be bought for
$50 or $60 that is better in every way.
Every small farmer can afford to own ono,
and the manufacturers are making money.
The same tbing would be true with the
bicycle. A plain, servieable machine at
$40 or $50 each would bring more not
profit to the manufacturers than one cost-
ing $125 or $150, because they would sell
ten of them where they sell only ono now.
A manufacturer of machinery said a few
days ago that he would like the exclusive
right to make bioycles plain but durable,
for $50 each, ati he could make more money
than in anything else in general use as far
as he knew. The cheapening of price.
would not only largely increase the use of
bioyclea, but a' need in the same proportion
inercaso the "movement for better road..
Better roads will cost money, and it takes
both public opinion and votes to provide
stoney for such things, More bicycles
means more Otos and greater willingness
to expend public money in remoying a hitt
from qur boasted civilization: -Buifalo Ex.
