CROWDED OUT.—A largo amount of town local and editorial matter, late budgets from Wingham, Colborne, Morris, Brussels, Goderich township, Londeeloro and other places are units voidably crowded out this week. Our esteemed correspondents would confer a great favor if their welcome items were sent in a little earlier. TOWN Couteorr, mot Monday evening. WILL HAVE A NEW ORGAL—The Rattenbury Street Methadiets have al- ready raised over $1100 for a now pipe organ and the huge musical instru- ment will be ordored in a few daya. The cost will bo in the neighborhood of $2,000. The young people of the church ate hustlers, DEPUTY POSTMASTER W. D. FAIR has returned from a trip on the Ayr lino and to Toronto. "Will" has not been acting up to his usual standard of punotuality, for we believe this trip was, his Christmas holiday and some claim that it is as much a matter of ir regularity to be beforehand as to be be hind time, FIRST or THE WEEK.—Mr Wm McCabe, of Benrniller, was the first volunteer to the subscription list of THE NEws-REconD last Monday. Of course there are many other volunteers, but Mr. McCabe was the first ou the first day of the week. He is a, man who loves his Queen and his country and THE NEWS RECORD is good enough for him. If all men were like Mr. Me. Cabe there would not ..te any annexa tioniste in Canada. ORANGE ELECTION.—L. 0. Addresses were delivered, at the conclusion of which the order was raised ,and several ad- vanced to the Purple, Blue and Royal Arch degrees. LOOKING To THE FUTURE—Some of our exchanges are getting off a little joke that the press of Huron are a4 in favor of a House of Refuge be- cause they are looking to their own future. Not at all. Newspaper men may be called unfortonate mortals, but the reason this journal favors such an institution is from honest oo nvic- tion—from a financial, humane and Christian standpoint. Probably some of our soureres would be better off iu the poor house, but we are here to work for- humanit-y an d" the be ire fi Vof- the- communitAin which we live. To retire to such a necessary institution would be about as great a disgrace to the com- munity as it would be for the wealthy county of Huron not to este blish a House of Refuge. PRINTERS INK AND TiTADE.--Last week THE NEWSTECORD inserted a whole page advertisement for the Hod• gene Estate. The firm announced the first of a series of monthly bargain days. The first of the series has proved a great success, no less than fourteen clerks and assistants being kept busy. from morning till night. The .Palace Store will continue these bargain days and their monthly anouncernents will appear in THE NEWS RECORD. Just here we want to call attention to what honest advertising will do. It will draw people and sell goods if adver- tiser's keep faith with purchasers. Clinton merchants have the rep'itation of carrying out exactly what they place iu cOld print. A case in point as to the benefit of newspaper advertising. Jackson Brothers have been in busi- ness a good many years and annually their contract is renewed with TUE NEWS RDCORD, Last week the firm contracted for additional space for 1893. And why? Because years] of practical experience has proved to them that the newspaper is the best ,and most reliable medium to talk to the people through. It goes to the homes of the tuassee of people and is read and preserved. Another_point. TITE NEWS- REconD can see no reason why Clin- ton shoull not be made a central or greater distributing point. for all the wares and 'goods that our merchants handle. Almost daily We are brought iu contact with people who have for years been trading in tho neighboring towns, not because they receive higher prices for their .produce or greater value in the goods they buy. But because neighboring merchants have at seasons of the year offered induce- ments which Clinton merchants have not. And when trade is once diverted from a channel more will follow. A. gentleman was induced to come to Clinton the other day through business with 0. S. Doan's tannery. He has 'not traded here for a long time, but will do more business in this town hereafter. And we are pleased to say that he paid for THE News RECORD for 1893. We would say to our business men, study the future use printers'' ink more liber- ally, carry out what you' say and draw extra trade to the town; make Clinton a distributing point for increased terri- tory which is within your grasp. The local papers can help you to accom- plish this end. Pappas and mammas are measuring their pocket books and wondering where to spend their surplus cash to the beat advarrtage. We suggest that all spend it in Clinton where the live business men always make it a point to give the most goods for the least money. Look over the columns of THE LEVIS-RECORD and see what our advertisers have to say. • CORRESPONDENTS will please bear in ?smind that their nanteashoold be signed to all budgets of news. This is neses- eery for their own and our protection. No PacienT.—The West Huron ,proteet has been dropped and the Hon. J. C. Patterson will remain undisturb- ed for at least the balance of the par- liamentary term. A fat thing for a few of the legal fraternity has thus been averted and at least at this late day the judgment of our Reform friends is commendable. THE DAIRY.—It ie quite true Clinton has not a Board of Trade. Such being the case, farmers in this vicinity should interest themselves and secure a visit from the Travelling Dairy. The town council might be induced to give the farmers of the neighborhood an oppor- tunity Df hearing the experts from the College. LOCAL GREEN GOODb.—The country is being flooded with green goods eir- cetera from New Yotk, all on the same old plan, with the old "fraudulent, newspaper clipping. Several have been received here.
