ABOUT ECONOMY. —.— A man may go from Clinton to Toronto without riding in the cars. It will take him a long time to walk, but he saves his oar fare. The thing looks economical, but is really extravagance. A man can often do without a doctor when he is sick, and do with- out quack .nostrums particularly, if he will only economize by having a little Fine Whiskey, Brandy or Wine at, the proper`time. And and it is foolish economy to be without that which is likely to be prescribed for you. We have what you want in Ales, Porter, Whiskies, Brandies, Vines, etc., etc., in wood and bottle. We keep -in stock the very best and sell at the lowest living profit "'he correct and safest economy is to always buy from us. J. W. RITER, ALBERT STREET, CLINTON To Advertisers. Tire GUY BOOTREne,—The Ony Bros. Minis - trots performed in the Town Hall last night and a urger crowded or a better entertainment has not been seen in the IIall for years. Standing room was at a premium before 8 o'clock. Hnu- dreds were turned away and to satisfy the crowd the Co re piny had to be persuaded to po,.l pane an engagement and remain in Owen Sound another night. They repeat their programme tp- night again and it is a programme that can well stand repetition. Every number on it is excellent, 'rhe songs were nil splendid. The jokes were original and extremely fanny. The stick drill and dancing was ezeellent. Venoreou and 0(c - Donald in their Horizontal Bar perform ince were good and their "Chinese:' brought down the house. The negro impersonation of Mr. W. It Gdy was excellent, his dialect ie perfect and his actions, taken all round, most judicious. E. A. Pratt's violin selections and Imitations were well received. Mr. Hugh McVoy's Clnb Swinging was a fine feature of the programme. Eddie McDon- ald the contortionist ie superb. Some of his feats are simply wonderful. "Save the Pieces" the concluding number in which the Trick cottage fa introduced to n perfect whirlwind of fun. The Orchestra is one of the beat ever hoard hero. Everything is refine the coarse jokes in which same organizations delight being conspicuously absent.—Owon Sound Times. The above ie copied from the Owen Sound Tithes and is indeed complimentary but the areatost compliment this Company can receive is the crowded houses of in- telligent people who grout thorn when ever they visit Clinton. There is no doubt but that rho old time enthusiasm will be meted out to this deser- vedly popular company. THE CosonovEs.—This splendid concert company is larger and better than ever. They are billed for the Clinton town hall next Tuesday evening in an entire now programme. The yield this year and the demand has been the means of circulating, an im• memo amount of money. Our• farmer friend.) and an army of pack• ere should. be a groat deal better off this fall thap last year. There will always be a good market for all the apples of the right quality we can produce. Producers should pay close attention to the class of trees they expect to receive returns from, and this is a good time of year to form a sound opinion of what classes pay beet, Poor stock is dear at boy price. MARRIED AT LONDON.—A quiet wedding took place at the English Church Ractor'y, Loudon, on Tues. day afternoon of last week. The contracting parties were Mr. Ed- ward Sanders, of -the Clinton Organ Company works, and Mies DamsDemuth, of Reid City, Mich. The ceremony was performed by the Very Rev. G. M. Intros, Dean of Huron. 'Mr. C. II, Sanders, of -the Exeter Advocate, acted as groomsman and Mies Annie Sanders assisted the bride. The happy couple drove to Exeter Tuesday evening and will remain for a few days visiting friends and reltaives, after which they will take up their residence in Clinton. THE NEWS RECORD extends congratulatione. A CITIZEN who noticed the re- marks in THE NEWS RECORD last week about water workv for Clinton Bays that the suggestion ie a "capital" one, for four reasons : The bettering of the sanitary con dition of the town ; the reducing to a minimum the coat of insurance; the better protection and leaseuing the cost of running our manufactur- ing industries; the preventing of the whole town from being wiped out by fire. In regard to the last possibility he handed us the follow- ing as the expertence of a small place,' which ho says might be ours at any time :—"Some weeks ago the village 9f Beeton defeated a by-law for better fire protection by a narrow majority. On Wednesday morn- ing at an early hour the place was almost swept out of existence. The lose is estimated at $60,000." TIIE BENEFITS Of SC10n00 to practical utility are going on apace. The inexhaustible salt mines of Huron county will yet make a stir in the commercial world. A north of England paper announces the discovery of a new processrof pro• ducing caustic soda, CIIlorin° and other chemicals directfrom salt brine by electricity. The new pro cesses effect a saving of fifty per cent. Last week we called atten• tion to tho coming general use of vitrified brick for sidewalks and possibly for buildings. In the vicinity of Clinton it is said there is clay which is only loss friable than the clay from ° wh ich fire brick is made. With good clay and any amount of salt right on the spot there should bo an opening for• the manufacture of vitrified brick to supply half the 'continent with the hundreds of thousand of mil- lions tht t. can. be utilized. Then wo have railway facilities for ship- ping them possessed by but few localities. IT WAS NOT COMPLETE.—Last week THE NEWS RECORD published a'very good account of the Haye• Shane nuptials. But unfortunately the list of presents was incomplete. The oversight occurred through two pages being written on one sheet. It is a rule in all well -regulated newspaper offices to "follow copy" oven though it should disappear through the window, but printers' never look on the rovol•so aide of a page—it is. always supposed to be a blank. In this way a great injustice has been done the contracting parties and their numerous friends. Be- low are the names and presents un- intentionally omitted :—Mrs. Up - shall, Jap. panel ; Harry and Kate Read, berry spoon ; Rev. M. Parke, Church service ; Miss Price, loyal worcestor vase ; Mrs. IV ation, silver cream and sugar; Mr. and Mra.
