Foreigners who tried to esteem the

contempt and suspiclou.
The elder (Mato said that these

Such crude efforts were supplant-

various drugs and medicines were
sold. Then as now quacks abound -

protection of the people ordered
that alt remedies should bear a

the sickness for which it was pre.

For disorders of the stomach a

effect that the sufferer should read
aloud, in a clear, distinct tone, some
book or speech, and then take

The following explanation of the
way Forger Mailing escaped from
the Stratford goal comes from the
Guelph Herald and is given for what
it is worth : Edward Phalling, alias
C. C. Dale, dealer in horses and
mules. who escaped from Stratford
jail on Tuesday night last week, has
proven himself an ingenious lock-
smith. He bus a sharp eye, and it
is supposed that by daily examina-
tion of the cell key he fixed it so ac-
curately in his mind that he was
able to reproduce it. The material
lie used was a wooden rod from the
cell chair, and his only tool was a
piece of zinc sharpened on a brick.
The cell door was of stone, and the
it y hole was row the outside. The
key was a shaft about a foot long to
reach through the atone. The key
ie an intricate one with numerous
wards, which were accurately re
produced on the manufactured key.

you get right out of here, quick.'
The man tuned and started for the
door, and when about half way
