The mere possibility of such re-

paralyses you, that you lie speech-

you heara yawn or two in the little

over two or three times, a pair of

A MANITO13A CYCLONE,
I100SES ANDIOATTIil KILLED AND
Il0U8E8 AND DARNS
DESTROYED.
.Winnipeg, July 11.—The storm
which passed over Winnipeg `oat
night appeared to have been general
throughout the provtllce. As far
as could be let Fled it did no damage
in the city, but it would seew to
hare spent its fury before reaching
here, Advices from principal
points indicate that it was of un
ueual violence in some distiicle.
Telegraph wiles suffered consider-
ably, and were down in Southern
'Manitoba and west of Portage I,1
Prairie, At °hater there was a
terrible wind and hailstorm which
killed a great many horses and
cattle and destroyed barns. Noth-
ing se bad as ever been known in
the province,
A Douglas dispatch says : A
cyclone running in a southeasterly
direction passed here yesterday,
When first noticed by our villagers
a furious thunderstorm was raging
to to the north. The'sky was clear
in tha west, whin sud.lduly a hugs
black cloud, which overhung the
west :rn horizon, burst and full to the
ground in the shape of a cone, cove
ing the ground with the same hue, f
blackness as the clouds above.
Shortly after word reached here tht;t
the house and stables ofti Boles we e
blown down. About seven o'clock
sorne of the vilI. gee's drove ou. to
Boles' place, and found that where
his house stood nothing was loft but
the cellar. Not a board of any
kind codld be found. Hie house
was a heavy log .structure, and the
togs were scattered in every dire°•
tion, some of them a quarter mile
distant. Machinery and wagons
were smashed to atoms, and furni-
ture and clothing were found in hie
neighbor's field. Luckily he was
not at home at the time. He and
his family were on their way froln
Sunday school, and took refuge
with a neighbor's family in their
cellar, Later reports say that 151r.
Nevins and Mr. Crawford, further
west, have lost everything bot the
clothing they wore. Mr. Nevins
has lost four horses and a stearal
'thresher. The horses were•faind'
iu a neighbor's wheat field, and
nothing was left about the place but
the boiler belonging to the threeher:
Nevins and family saved their lives
by taking refuge in an underground
milkhouse. No lives so far are re-
ported lost. Hail is said to have
done damage to' the crops in the
vicinity, and nearly all the Win-
dows facing east here have beau
broken,
A Brandon dispatch says : A
fierce storm passed to the north of
the city on Saturday afternoon,
Which at places played havoc with
things generally. Tho storm pro-
per, which brought rain in torrents
and very largo hail, was a windstorm
which almost assumed the propor-
tions of a cyclone, The wind
swept) everything before it, and
several houses and barns are report-
ed ,to have been hurled to the
ground. At H. C. Durnford's farm,
Dight miles northwest of the city,
'the storm raged most furiously,
tearing the barns and houses to
pieces And badly injuring Mrs.
Durnford• and her daughter, who
were in the house when the storm
came. The storm passed north of
the city, taking a southeast course,
and struck the villages of Douglas
and Carberry,
A Weet Selkirk dispatch says :
The Episcopal church at Dynevor
was struck by lightning on Satur-
day evening. The paretaker on
Sunday morning found the church
full of smoke and the floor on fire
about the center of the church.
There being no draught the fire
smouldered all night. The damege
is slight. The windows in several
houses farther down are reported
broken out by the thunder. •
