The following shocking intelli

Press refers to a one time respected

He was Chief Ringer in C. Q. F.
Court Maple Leaf, No. 16, and a
prominent member of the High
Court. The deceased has relatives
in Seaforth. A few years ago he
removed from here ttiith his family
to Detroit. The report says :
Peter 1tubb, a carpenter, aged 50,
made a desperate attempt to coin,
mit suicide shortly before six o'clock
ye,terdey afternoon by cutting his
throat from ear to ear and stabbiug
himself iu the breast seven or eight
times. The attempt ryas made in
the alley bounded by Twenty-first
Foundry, Standish and Baker
str'eeta, whioh is only a short distance
from a building ou'Foundt'y street
which he•• was erecting. Robb
secured the •contract for the building
some time ago, but had been ham,
pered in the work on adcotlnt of
sickness. Ile was also trying to
overcome the drinking habit, and
of late had become very m ilancholy.
Yesterday he worked on the build,
ing as usual and started for home
at half past 5 o'clock. About
ttseuty minutes late]' some passers
by noticed him lying in an alley with
a frightful gash iu his throat. The.

stitched his throat together as well
as possible. The doctors also found
seven or eight cuts on his bresst, but
but none of them deep enough to

comfortable as possible,' but there is
no hope for his recovery and his

Jim Fair may bo seen doing 3 miles

says he is bound to reduce the superfluous
flesh if he gets up at 3.
Jimmy Finch is dieting himself on 2
meals a day and no raw meat. He says
lie feels like a bay again. „
Torr Rsnce may be seen oyery night
taking a five mile run out in Goderich
township, with '`Cully" Ball as running
]nate.
Jack Scruton has reduced himself 20 lbs
in two days and at liigh twelve may be
seen sweating in blankets. We would
like to see tlio ball that would go past
him.
Lack has "Roxy" out in the back yard
every opportunity.
Joe. Wheatly has been training in the
gravel pit in the day time and on that
vacant lot near his residence in the eyeu

gait. You'll see.
There were giants in those days.—
Wheatly, Rince, Fair and Seruton are all

by 4 to 1.
The teams were very fortunate in pro-
curing Dr. Blackall, as his stentorian
voice and manliness will no doubt prevent
any Huron rowdyism and a guarantee
that the gams will be played on its merits.
Stevens, Patterson, Spalding, Shaw,
