They had quarrelled, and the high-

"You are right, Miss Keezer," he
said, humbly, "and I suppose I must

"I never gave you anything, sir, that
I remember."
"Indeed you did."
"Sir, I—"
"Miss Keezer—Katie?" he exclaimed,
with something that sound Bee a sob;
"I value them beyond everything else
in the world. It would break my heart
to return them, but there is nothing
else left for me to do."
"Will you kindly tell me, sir, what
you are speaking of?"
"I am speaking, Katie, of the kisses

CATARRH, NOT LOCAL, BUT CON-
STITUTIONAL.
Dr. Dio Lewis, the eminent Boston
physician, in a magazine article says; "A
radical_ error underlies nearly all medical
treatment Of catarrh. It is no disease

man, showing itself in the nose—a Local
exhibition of a Constitutional trouble."
Therefore, he argues, the use of snuff and
other local applications is wrong, and while
they seem to give temporary relief, they
really do more harm than good. Other
leading authorities agree with Dr. Lewis.
Hence, the only proper method of cure for
catarrh is by taking a constitutional reme- Ont., and Schenectady, N.Y., and are sold

RelletComes from Vailiada,
The following letter toile the tale of one
releseed from Buffering, and need e no own-
went:—
Michigan Soldier's Home,
Hospital Ward A.,
GRAND Ittriee, March 27, 1892.
Dr. Williame' Medicine Co.
Gentlemen ,—I hoveyour letter of the 24th,
asking me what benefit I got from Pink Pills
for Pale People, and it gives me unbounded
satisfaction to reply. Within ten days af.
ter I began taking Dr Williams' Pink Pills,
those terribly exoruciating pains I had ex-
perienced in my limbs, heart, stomach, back
And head, began to leave me, becoming less
severe and less frequent and before I had
taken ell 9f the eeeead box they were gone.
At times sinoe I have experienced aches,
but they are nothing compared to the pains
I had formerly suffered. For monthe I
could get no Bleep or rest, only from the nee
of morphine, two, three and five times daily.
Soon after I began taking the Pink Pills I
discontinned the morphine and have taken
it but once since, and I am now only taking
my fourth box of the pills. Before I began
teking Pink Pine I had no passage frora my
bowele meg from the tufa of cathartics.
Very soon after taking the pills my bowels
moved regularly and naturally,—oonstipa-
don was entirely gone. Previous to com-
mencing the use of Pink Pills my urine
was milky in color and after standing re-
sembled a jelly substance. Now it is clear
and perfectly natural, and shows no sedi-
ment whatever. I had lost the UBb of my
legs and could not bear the weight of my
body on them. By the use of Dr Williame
Pink Pille and cold bathe and rubbing with
a crash towel prescribed with them, my
limbs have steadily gained in health and
strength until I can now bear my full weight
upon them. I have been gaining slowly
but surely ever since I began the use of the
Pink Pills and am perfectly confident that
I will be able to walk again and be comfor-
table, and this after doctoring for years
with the best physicians and specialists
who said my disease could not be oured but
only relieved temporarily by the use of hy-
poderinio injections of morphine. I would
not do without Dr Williams' Pink Pills un-
der any cirousnstances, even though they
cost ten timer; what they do, and I strongly
recommend them to persons afflicted with
locomotor, ataxia,paralysis, kidney troubles
nervous diseases and impurities of theblood.
I have recommended the Pick Pills to a
number of old comrades, and in every in-
stance they have proved beneficial, can I
therefore do less than warmly recommend
them to all that read this letter?
Yours very gratefully.
E. P. HAWLEY.
Pink Pills are a perfect blood builder and
nerve restorer, curing such diseases as
rheumatism, neure.lgia, partial paralysis,
locomotor ataxia, St. Vitus' dance, nervous
headache, nervous prostration and the tired
feeling therefrom, the after effects of la
grippe, diseases depending on humors of the
blood, such' as scrofula, chronic erysipelas,
etc. Pink Pills give a healthy glow to pale
and sallow complexions, and are a specific
for the troubles peculiar to the female sys-
tem, and in the case of men they effect a
radical cure in all cases arising from men-
tal worry, overwork or excesses of any na-
ture.
These Pills are manufactured by the Dr
William's Medicine Company, Brockville
dy like Hood's Sarsaparilla, which. reach-
i,eg, every part of the body through the
brood,`, .does eliminate all impurities and
makes the whole man healthier. It re-
moves the cause of the trouble and restores
the diseased membrane -o proper condition.
That this is the practical result is proven
by thousands of people who have been
cured of catarrh by taking Hood's Sarsap-
arilla.
NEEDED REPAIR.
-The old practice of badgering witnes-
ses has almost disappeared from many
courts, but in a Western Kansas town
it is still kept up—sonietimes,however,
to the damage of the cross-examiner.
Lawyer S. is well known for his un -
comely habits. He cuts his hair about
four times a year, and the rest of the
time looks decidedly ragged about the
ears. He was making a witness des-
cribe a barn which figured in his last
case.
"How long had this barn been
brelt?"
"Oh, I don't know. About a year,
rnebby. About nine months p'raps."
"But just how long? Tell the jury
how long it had been
"Well, I don't know exactly. Quite
i a while."
"Now, Mr B., you pass for an intelli-
gent farmer and yet you can't tell how
old this barn is; and you have lived on
the next farm for ten years. Can you
tell how old your own house is? Come
now, tell us how old your own house is,
if you think you know."
Quick as lightning the old farmer re-
plied:
"Ye want to know how old my house
is, do ye? Well, it's just about as old
as you be, and needs shingling just as
badl"
In the roar that followed the witness
stepped down, and Lawyer S. did
not call him back.
The lawyer was vanquished.

THE MAGNITUDE OF THE EX-
POSITION BUILDINGS.
--
Chicago at any time, in its most nor-
mal state, if it ever lapses into such a
state, is distinctly a show city, and if
you pay it your first visit while it is
dedicating World's Fair buildings and
making room for one million strangers
your impressions are so many and so
various that it isdifficult to know with
which to begin. This is especially so
when you must tell what you saw to
the accompaniment of a type -writer
and the rattle of a limited express.
And yet after it is all over there is
the one thing which found you unpre-
pared, and the wonder of which re-
mains with you when every other im-
pression is slipping away as rapidly as
the miles which keep you from New
York. And that is the wonderful
beauty and magnitude of the World's
Fair buildings. Ever y one who has not
seen these buildings thinks he knows
exactly what they are like, and does
not want to hear anything more con-
cerning them. At least one man
thought he knew what they were like
before he saw thein, and certainly
dreaded being told again in bewilder-
ing statistics of their area, height, and
cost. But when I saw them around
the lagoon, in front, of the main en-
trance, I wanted to be left alone in
front of a beautiful landscape or a great
picture. There is no use of my trying
to say why this was so, why they are
impressive and beautiful, for I remem-
ber having read all this before of them,
and of not considering it at all.
Their magnitude and their beauty,
not on account of these qualities, but
in spite of them, are not things of
which the best writers on architecture
—can give any idea; neither can col-
ored prints with palm -ti ees in the fore-
ground and blue skies above nor even
photographs which "never lie." You
can hardly hope to give another person
an idea of anything unless there is
something with which he is already
familiar, and with which you can make
comparsion. In tide ease you can only
compare the World's Fair buildings
with Rome as we believe it was in its
grandest days, and with those days we
cannot claim to be intimate. One of
Spaniels legation put it this way. "The
Chicago buildings," he said, "are the
buildings we should have seen in Paris;
those of the Paris exhibition are those
we might have expected to find at
Chicago." That is exactly right, and
one of the secondary surprises of this
wonderful white city; that the city of
art and letters of the Madeleine and of
the Beaux-Arts should have fallen
clown and worshipped an Eiffel Tower
and Edison electric lightings, and that
the city of grain -elevators and pork
should have reared a second city as
classic in its beauty as the Athens of
to -day, and as true in the detail of a
cornice as it is grand as a whole. —Har -
