estimated at about $2,000,000, as well
as perhaps the greatest 'cotton planter

the victim of cigarettes. The disease

Henry Knister, a well-to-do farmer
living about four miles from Comber,
committed suicide by drowning himself
in a well, on Thursday evening. The
tragedy occurred on the old homestead,
where about 12 years ago the deceased's
father shot his second wife dead, then
destroyed his own life with the same
weapon. The unfortunate ma,n.,was
left a life lease of the homestead,Whist
was to go to the eldest, son at his death.
He was to pay his sisters $400 each,
and, being unable to raise enough mo-
ney to pay one of the sisters, it is
thought that this threw him' into a fit
of despondency, with t•he awful result.
He was a hard-working and industrious
man.
There•liave appeated from time to thee
in the IsTsw Elie during the past years
accounts of remarkable cures in various
parts of the Dominion. In each case the
circumstances connected there -with had
been investigated by well known news-
papers, and there could be no doubt as to
the entire reliability of the account given.
Perhaps...the case that attracted most
attention Was that of Mr John Marshall,
cf Hamilton. This was not, perhaps, be-
cause it was attended by some other pecul-
iar oireumatances that served to emphasize
it in the aiind of the public, as for instance
the fact that he had bee ti pronouneed
absolutely incurable by half a score of
*ver physicians, and was actually paid
the 91,000 disability claim allowed by the
Royal Teraplars of Temperance. Else-
where in the issue is given the particulars
of a cure in Clape Breton, which is quite as
remarkable as that of Mr Marshall. The
particulars of the case are taken from the
Halifax Herald, but they are also vouched
for by Mr Richardson, the -editor and
proprietor of the Island Reporter, Sidney,
C. B., who says that in not a single par.
tioular is the story over -drawn. We fancy
we heat son -e reader say, "Oh ollaw this
doesn't interest me." But it tides. The
story as told elsewhere is worth read-
ing, and we will guarantee before you
are through with it you will be thoroughly
interested.
