Tho Globo keeps up a seneloss '}larping on the drawbacks that must inevitably result from Canada de - ;pending upon a market 3000 miles .sway for the sale of our surplus :farm products. Suppose we had free trade with the States, how would that lessen the distance be- ' ween Canada and 13ritain 3 It is ittie veriest bosh to assume it would• The United States aro farther from fitritain than we are, and it is there they find their market for she very same class of farm products ,hat we have to sell. If the Americans can profitably sell their :surplus farm products in Britain or Europe, what is to prevent Cana- alians doing so? IIad we free trade with the States Canada would be a :Aumping ground for both their statural and manufactured products. ...4tnd, besides, we should be dopriv- id of a very largo part of the carrying :trade with we now possess; and the aiofita from which add so largely the employment of our people and the wealth of the country. • CURRENT TOPICS. MAY BR EXTRADITED. There is some rumor that the 1':"i .overnment were considering that .oxivieability of taking steps to extra- ite`Owen E. Murphy and Robert H. McGreevy, who are in the Unit- -,ed States. It is a questiou in the -opinion of leading officials of the Department of Justice whether their offences would corue within the ex, -tradition treaty, broad as it is, and :also a question, whether the plea of their being wanted for political seasons could not be successfully raised in their behalf. 'HAAs CARTWRIGHT THE PREACHER? GALLANT Bon. Some of the papers, in referring qua Colonel Ingersoll's remarks at. a %magnet last week, made hits say t iz.at he would rather go to eternal a arment with the woman 110 loved than to heaven if women were not e here. This immensely delighted a '<certain young woman, who soon :after took occasion to tell him so. As, Colonel heard her through ,smilingly and then said : [[Yes, Tem, very nice, indeed, only I never ,said it." This was a blow, but his oyes twinkled, so she asked him ':shat he had said. He took up a Ran and wrote for a monient in .silence, handed her tho.paper and said : `'Ager° now, how does that p1oase you!" This was what he had ca-ritten : "According to the theolo- zians woman brought all the trouble tanto this world. If this is true, (lien I had rather live with the wo, atzan I Iovo'in a world full of trouble dlhon to live in heaven with nobody ;kat ..anon.":...And the woman liked it better, ever so much. ?QGITIp,Aa P4R4G1R.PHs. «,--Mr, Cargill has. accepted: the request of the Conservative of East Brucee and will contest tiitj riding lor: the Commons. --The protest Rgt► ustDx, Roone, 111, P. for Neat Middlesex, was dis- missed at Landon fast week. --Mr, ,Tohn Hargraft, M.
