HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Huron News-Record, 1891-07-29, Page 5', DRIVEN TO BAY. THE 0.11T MLTOt1ELL EDITOR CORNERS HIMSELF. To the Editor of The Xeivs.Record. DEAR Sia,—The Mitchell Recorder, has been spoiling for a fight for some weeks. Iaits frenzy it has made many onslaughts on the Orange Order. Finding that its poisoned arrows had no eff et it turned its attention to the Lady 'Prue Blues, and now the Recur- , der, after slandering our mothers, wives and daughters, admits that it is 4'not to well qualified to judge." But this is not the Recorder's only gravesin, for it holds County Master White in the "highest regard," and in the same breath charges the Order , which Bro. White represents with {'high and false pretensions," "poli- tical intrigue," "rory machine," "an iuoentiye to sectar,an strife," "tend• ing to perpetuate a spirit of intoler- ance,' etc., etc. All these charges the Recorder makes while professing friendship for the r presentative of South Perth and "many splendid iorange) fel- lows." Just for the sake of illustrating the kind of a "Tory machine" the Order is, I may state that the Master of an Orange lodge, the husband of the Mistress of the Huron L.T.B. Lodge, both at Mitchell on the 13th and yellow the litcorder so roundly ridi- cules, is a cousiste"t and old-time Reformer. The whole family are of that political persuasion, and from the cradle to the grave are Orange. But they are nut Grits by any means, The Recorder element, of the annexationist stamp, the Orange Order has no room tor. It is probably not necessary to state that tti3 editor of the \litchell "smut machine" is not a member of the Orange Order, nal' 1s he likely to be. Nor is it necessary to rebut the notoriously false accusations of the Grit machine, further than to ask the Recorder man to carefully digest the thoughtful and truthful sermon of Rev. \Ir. Dewdney in Mitchell on Sunday, July 12th. That sermon, and the remarks on the 13th of Revs. Messrs. Leech, Ayers, Dewdney, Ilincks, Dr. Ellis and Capt. Todd — all, 1 believe, members of the Order, --mon who had a keen knowledge of the subject, fully and satisfactorily barricaded the Order ag.tinst all the assaults and untruthful assertions the Recorder rutty make against it during tire next twelve mouths. But all these slanders hulled at the Orange Order are entirely sktperst'd ed when the bludgeon is taken up by the Ananias Re,,order and our wives and daughter's cruelly attacked by this incompetent judge. And after attempting to bring diem to the dust as lie would the British flag had he the power, this editor queries :— "We want somebody to tell us what use these women are as an organized institution." When five 1''enians invaded Canada thy found to their sorrow that they were mistaken. \Vhen the Recorder attacked the Lady 'Prue Blues he should have been in possession of tlw information he now seeks Had the Feniane taken precaution they would never have invaded Canada. Had the R,corder taken precaution and asked for the infortuatiou he now seeks, he would not occupy the un- enviable position of• attacking the weaker sex and then ask, "Why did I du so?' Bat then I might gratify the ignor. ant "smut-ediior" by stating that the Lady 'Prue Blues are a purely Protest- ant institution, inculcating the "practice of tire Divine Virtues, Charity and Love, which are pleasing to God, and in His Holy Word we are instructed anti commanded to corns fort and console the afflicted, help the needy, visit the sick and bury the demi," etc. Emulsion OF Cod Liver Oil AND TMC Hypophosphites of Lime and Soda. No other Emulsion is so easy to take. It does not separate nor spoil. It is always sweet as cream. The most sensitive stomach can retain it. CURES Scrofulous and Wasting Diseases. Chronic Cough. Loss of Appetite. Mental and Nervous Prostration. General Debility, &c. Beware of all imitations. Ask for "the D. & L." Emulsion, and refuse all others. PRICE 60C. AND $1 PER BOTTLE. has brought false witness against the Order, as evidence the testimony of the clergy of his own and other towns. Yours, etc., A HURON ORANGEMAN. .l my 25th, 1891. 1;E. But for fear these words may not gratify the bilious editor, I may further state that there is a death benefit in connection with the Association. And the Orphanage Board .is a part of the 'Prue Blue A 9ociation. Tho Recorder will probably again say they are "no ornament" with these words as their motto: "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this : 7'o visit tire fatherless and widows in their aftlic- tion."—Jarnes 1, 27. Or probably this noble clause will not meet with his approval : "Every orphan upon being taken under the control of this Board shall be presented thereby with a copy of the Holy Bible, and shall be trained up in whatever branch of the Chris, tian church to which his or her parents belonged, and remain under our control until they reach the age of 16 years, unless otherwise decided by this Board." Then the Board has the power to "place orphans in private families and pay for their sustenance and education ;" in the case of "ill -usage or unchristian training," orphans "shall at once be taken from under their (private) control." But the Recorder's strongest objet• tion may be based on this clause : "Private guardians of orphans must teach them the Lord's Prayer, and cause them to read daily a por- tion of the Holy Scriptures, and cause them to attend the Public or some Protestant school daily, also Sunday school and church, denomi- nation of which such orphans' parents belonged, except in cases of sickness or unavoidable circum- stances shall attend such schools regularly." Now, Mr. Editor, I think I have given enough to show that the Lady 'Prue Blues have been wantonly slan- dered and dragged in the dust by the Recorder-: I could not say less, but might say ti great deal more in their defence. As for the Orange Order, the Constitution has been open to the world long before the grit annex- •fationist-editor was born, and 1 have faith will stand the test when he is no more.
