CANADIAN NEWS NOTES.
—The net profit° of the Canadian ea-
cifio Railroad in 1890 were $6,299,700,
and the net profits for the first f.1,ur
month° this year are $550,000 more than
for the same period last year.
—Hon. Mr. Haggart gave the sales of
registratiou stamps as follows : 1883,
•'$61,769; 1884, $66,311; 1885, $66.444;
1886, $72,123 ; 1887, $74,031 ; 1888,
668,763; 1889, $73 310; 1890, $104,556.
—Constable Briggs bad Wm. Rose, of
Glammis, up before M. McNamara, J. P.,
of Walkerton,' for peddling without a
license. He pleaded guilty to the charge
and was tinsel $10 and $5.60 coats.

—Oueday last week four cattle belong-
ing to the estate of the late Walter Jew-
ell of Minto, died very suidenly. A. V.
3. was called to attend the last one that
died. lifter death he opened the stom-
ach and found a quantity of red lead.
Tho premises were examined, and it was
found that the painters who had been
painting the buildings, bad left a quan-
tity of red lead in the shed, which the cat-
tle got hold nf. The loss adobe heavy, as
they were all fine animals.
