20 Suit of Clothes for
A NEW SCHEME.

We want to organize a club of 50 well to purchase a $20 Suit of Clotho
each, on the following plan, viz :—
Each member shall pay ONE DOLLAR per week. Then every week
will be held a drawing, by 50 balls being placed in a box with numbers
-corresponding with the number of members of the Club. The lucky
member each week will receive his Suit without furtherpayment.
Thus the first lucky man will get his Suit for ONE DOLLAR, the 2nd
for TWO, the 3rd for THREE, and so on, until the 20 weeks h the passed,
when all who have not drawn will receive their Suits.
NOTICE—Tho Goode for these Suits may be selected from any
stock in this town or any stock in any other town, and will •be the Goods
which the firms are in the habit of selling at $20 poi Suit.
Par THIS IS NO LOTTERY. There are no bleuks, every man receiv-
ing full value for his money.
If you want to know more about the plan, come up and see

CANADA BETTER AS SHE IS.
Mr. Doloff, a farmer of Newark,
Vt., who is at present on a visit to
Montreal, in 'the course of a conversa-
tion with a Gazette representative,
spoke freely about the position of
the fanners in the Eastern States,
He showed clearly that so far frotn
Canada being benefitted by annexa-
tion she would be injured thereby,
, and argued that at the present time
Vermont would be more prosperous
if it belonged to this Dominion
than it is under the rule of the
Stars and Stripes. He said that in
Vermont farm taxes were heavy,
hired help was scarce, and con-
sequently wages were high, whilst
produce was difficult to dispose of.
The result, therefore, was that farm-
ers were growing poor. This had
been the case for twenty years, but
matters had got worse during the
last decade and a half. The reason
why rho Vermont farmer could not
sell his produce readily was because
the market was flooded with the sur-
plus from the \Vest,which was sold at
a lower rate than the local farmers
could afford to offer their produce
at. A farmer who hired help could
not make a living, but if he could
work the farm with the members of
his family only 'he might get
along. The Canadian farmer had a
better market for hie products in
the Dominion than his Vermont
brother had across the line. In
that State a person could hardly
sell a farm at all, and if Le did
manage to dispose of it, it was at a
price much below Ho value. Ho
mentioned a case which occurred a
few years ago in which a farm worth
$2,200 was sold for $750, the vendor
coming to Canada, where he pur-
chased a farm, and at the end of
twelve months disposed of it for
8150 more than it cost him. At
the present time Vermont would be
more prosperous if it belonged to
Canada than it is as part of the
States. The taxes here were con
paratively nothing to what they
in Vermont. If we had. free trade
with the States this country would
simply be swamped with the sur-
plus produce of the \Vest, which
would be sold at a cheaper rate than
the Canadian goods.
