J. W. IR 'IN, The Noted Grocep, Clinton
Briggs, Toronto, is the publisher of these
periodicals.
The Toronto Empire Saturday com-
pleted the thirdlyear of its publication
and issued a 20 page daily on the
anniversary. We congratulate the
Empire on the success it has attained as
an impartial and newsy journal. This
success has not been attained by
meretricious arts. Deceitful enticemerte
and advertisiog, nor sensational tricks
have been resorted to to gain the public
ear. Demagogism has not been resort-
ed to, race nor religious passions sought
to be aroused, nor political harlotism
commended. The Saturday number,
though exceptionally large,is a fair sam-
ple of its daily issues so far es the con-
tents go. It contains a vast fund of in-
formation as to the financial condition
and the resources of the country and this
particular issue should be preserved. In
tone, sentiment and enterprise it is
thoroughly Canadian, with a keen in-
terest in all parts of the British Empire,
and we wish its circulation limited only
by the bounds of that Empire to which
Rome in the height of her glory is not to
be compared.
